Seems stupid, but not when you consider it's possible Lamar sat out on his team and potentially could have made the AFC game or at least the divisional if he would have played while Mahomes played on an ankle sprain and won the bowl (also Hurts played with a shoulder strain and was easily the best player on the field next to Mahomes).

It's not unreasonable from that standpoint that teams don't want a player who will sit out games on purpose, even if they have a legitimate injury, just to make a point.
