I think it was more the protection of the 2024 second round pick, conditional first. Jets didn’t want to give it up, and Packers wouldn’t budge. So they compromised with the 65% snap requirement.

There were reports jets originally wanted some stupid shit like if Aaron Rodgers retires after one season the packers have to give the premium 2024 pick back lol.

the packers are eating 40m of rodgers future dead money on this season too, but they'll be out of it after this season which is why they're doing it. just rip the band-aid off

for the jets he'll be 15m this year, 32m next year, 51m in 2025, and 46m in 2026. essentially they're going all in for the next two seasons

Psh, I would have been shocked had picked up his 5th. Dude isn't currently worth close to what he would be paid in his 5th year.

If he suddenly plays at the level he was expected to, they can still sign him to a long contract. If he has another season like his last couple, easily move on and let someone else roll the dice.
