its based on draft position. he was picked 26th overall, aiyuk was 25th.

aiyuk's cap number in 2024 is $14,124,000 and it's fully guaranteed. love would have been about 14.5m

so love's contract is like 1m cheaper if they cut him, but it's 8m more expensive if they play him

    seems dumb

That’s the same term that Love would have been signed for if the Packers had exercised the $20.2 million 5th-year option, which would have been entirely fully guaranteed. However, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the total potential earnings on the deal are $22.5 million — a boost of a few million over the option — while the guaranteed money on the deal is significantly less, at only $13.5 million.

Brother, are you disagreeing with me on the internet? Is that wise?

Should the extension be given, the player's salary depends on their draft position.

Players selected between picks 11 and 32 would receive a salary that is the average of the third to 25th highest-paid players in the NFL at their respective positions.
Aiyuk and Love don't play the same position...

    2023 NFL Off-Season Thread: i didnt see a week 1 thread so,

Just looks like an odd thing to do regardless.

And if you’re Love why would you accept this? The upside hardly seems worth it.

Probably because the alternative was the option not getting picked up.

Yeah he's smart to take 13M guaranteed rather than risk it all on playing well enough for a big commitment on just this season - especially with all the receiving talent on the team being first and second year players as well.

Love should’ve just straight up dared Green Bay to not pick up his option. Especially after the draft. What else were they gonna do? Decline it, openly admit to everyone the first round pick was always stupid as shit to begin with, and then sign Marcus Mariota?

Just seems like an incredibly bizarre deal to risk $7M for $2M. Not even the most degenerate WSOP gamblers are taking those odds.

The Packers GM was straight asked over the weekend about the 5th year option was the response was dead ass "thats a lot of money for someone who hasn't played".

Antonio Brown has now been accused of threatening an Arena League coach and locking players out of a team hotel lmao.

Just lock this idiot away for something already.
