Agreed. I hope it blows up so badly this year that they change it back. Flexing should be saved for just removing a sunday night prime time game for a better matchup, nothing else.

    Looking at the TNF schedule

Week 13 - SEA @ DAL - they're not moving the boys out of prime time no matter how bad they are.

Week 14 - NE @ PIT - maybe if both teams suck

Week 15 - LAC @ LV - ok well if the raiders suck maybe Mark Davis has a point

Week 16 - NO @ LAR - Could see this one absolutely happening if either team is bad

Week 17 - NYJ @ CLE - Probably wouldn't get moved since NY + Aaron Rodgers

The only reason they'd flex a game out is if they think it would hurt the viewership and I really only see that applying to the games involving the LA teams

The TNF flexing is great IMO. 99.9% of fans are not attending the game. I want a good, meaningful game to watch on Thursday nights. This will aid in that.

They also have to flex the game with a 28 day notice. That is an acceptable amount of time IMO; they also have to take a risk that the flexed in game could be less meaningful (QB injury) within 4 weeks, but still better overall.

    2023 NFL Off-Season Thread: i didnt see a week 1 thread so,

Am I reading this right? So if a punter makes a great kick inside the 5 and the receiver fair catches it, it gets brought out to the 25 regardless?

EDIT: nvm. Am retarded. Kick-offs only.

Still sucks that a kicker can place it inside the 5yard line, and the opposing team can just wave their arm and gain 20yards for free.

if onside kicks weren't a thing kickoffs would've been scrubbed a decade ago, and you'd just automatically get the ball on the 25 after the opposing team just scored

It's probably better in every way, except it's more boring and less interesting.

Statistically in 2022, 62% of all kickoffs were fair catches/touchbacks.
Only 12% of the kickoffs that were returned in 2022 went past the 25 yard line... 12% of 62% is a very small number.

It's not the 90s anymore. Essentially every team intentionally just kicks the ball for a touchback nowadays.

Not wrong, just saying that 12%, or at least attempting it, is far more interesting and someone said it above but yeah def just ignoring the TV between drives cause why wouldn't anyone just take the safe and easy 25 yards

if anything they should move the kickoff up to like the 40 yard line or so to encourage more onside kicks (until they eventually institute the 4th and 15 rule or whatever)

cowboys kicker couldn’t hit an extra point to save his life at the end of the year, seems justified
