And so it begins, and with such auspicious timing. There's a lovely article out about the failures of EA on the 10 year anniversary of Sim City 2013's creation. This is all perfect.
Rot in hell, EA, for what you did. The lies about "100% needing online to work" for the game; the bullshit always-online microtransaction-desired end-game for that shitty game; the easily-confirmed desire to lock everyone onto Origin and pull them away from steam; the population cap lies; the server architecture bullshit; the corporate mandated deadlines releasing shit long before its done.
Haven't touched an EA game since; such was my rage at being fleeced by Sim City 2013. Enough was enough. I have yet to regret my decision. Cities Skylines wasn't perfect, but it was a breath of fresh air and a startling reminder that "you aren't special", no matter how beloved a franchise is. Anyone can do it better than you, especially when you become bloated and weighted down but corporate shareholder bullshit.
Damn I don't know if I could leave all my mods behind for a new game. My cities just aren't the same without my life sized gundams.

Fun Fact: the makers of Cities Skylines couldn't get funding for the game until the flop of Sim City 2013. Paradox wouldn't go in on it until they thought they actually had a chance to compete in the market.
Best decision ever. Thanks, EA.
The fucks still won't give me a remaster of Need for Speed Underground 1. The fucks.
