According to Meltzer it's not part of any currently planned storyline, just Punk being the softest man alive.

There should be no way he doesn't break the record at this point. Though I would absolutely try and get Honky to show up at the last possible moment to try and guitar shot him out of breaking it only to get chopped into oblivion.
