Honestly 1 isn't that great (didn't age well and the remakes still have the core old gameplay systems intact), you could just read some quick synopsis of it and jump into 2.

Played the demo last night and Claudes VA took a bit of getting used to. Forgot how much I LOVE this game and even unlocked crafting and made some food and a spell dmg +10 necklace. I used to spend hours just crafting haha.
So far I can't wait.

I've heard great things about 2 so i'm gonna give the remaster/remake a try but i played 3; went from what i considered a 10/10 maybe an 11/10 and then i got hit w/ the worst plot twist of any jrpg i ever played; and after that never played another star ocean lol
If the plot twist bothers you so much just try to forget it even existed, it has almost no relevance outside of 3
All the QoL in this sound so good, it really is shaping up to be a great remaster:
Hope they re-balance the characters. Chisato being the most OP shit in existence while Noel is the worst piece of shit in the game is annoying.
SO3 also currently happens at the end of the timeline because of the plot implications so it's easily segmented away

Went ahead and tried the demo on 3 platforms to decide which choose for the full game. Switch loses easily due to longer loading times, the ones after battles became especially annoying really quick.
PC and PS5 are basically the same, I saw someone complain about stutters on the world map on PC but I didn't experience that, the only weird thing that would happen from time to time was some sort of black bar/box appearing for a fraction of the second at the top of the screen. The game doesn't have many graphic options on PC to modify though, so I'm not sure if there's a fix for that, altought it wasn't very annoying.
Also, fast travel map showing you if there's a PA at a location is badass.
Anyone with a Steam deck tried the demo on it?

Tbh I think a lot of fans that were our age when the game dropped grew up and accepted it. Some are even willing to see what the 4D world looks like and tri-Ace could probably pull it off with the right story, which unfortunately is one of their problems.
If they could get someone to write for a brand new universe that more or less follows the same or similar rules to the Eternal Sphere, I think people would be cool with it if it's done well enough.
Didn't mind the plot twist in 3 when I played it. Like others said, it doesn't really matter or make anything meaningless in the whole story. Game was cool and fun. Probably still my favorite of the ones I've played.
I got SO3 signed by a couple of Enix people at a convention once and people were very divided by the fact that was the game I chose lol

Still an improvement over the original SO VA cast.
I'd give them somewhere around 50 points.
They changed Rena's use of "Urth" to "Earth" when Claude explains where he is from. I did notice that they have an NPC say "Erth" when Claude asks around for help.
Not sure if it was mentioned before, but this is pretty cool

Thats actually not a bad idea. Fayt and Maria acting as some sort of antagonist/anti-hero (from the perception of the player) in trying to liberate other simulations like they did for the Eternal Sphere would be an interesting take on things.
Edit: Seeing some posts from people starting to receive the physical case that now suddenly has a "Download Required" image on the front cover. No mention of anything being on the cart/disc or if there is even a cart at all in reference to the Switch version. This is concerning.
Further reports seem to suggest this refers to downloading additional languages and patches
