don’t conflate a first playthrough with a 100% run, I PROMISE no one here got that chest above the doorway in mushroom kingdoms castle you can only get by jumping on toads head during the very first visit during their first run.
a regular casual playthrough, at the time, was like 15-20 hours, a 100% playthrough AFTER the first playthrough was probably another 20 hours, so 35 or so hours total for completionists, maybe bump it to 40-45 total if you were unfamiliar with RPG’s.
Now a days? with this release? as long as they didn’t change any puzzles or things like super jump timings or anything like that, this game is at most only going to take people who’ve played it many times like 10-15 hours, heck, speedrunners take around 5 hours to 100% the game, I’d say 2-3 times that length is fair for a casual 100% run of the game.

oh no
but jking aside i think 15-20 is fair to hit a 95% run for those of us who don't remember how to go through the game optimally / aren't tryna speedrun anything. i haven't played since i was 11 or so and don't remember shit personally.

We should all be better game players as adults, then when we were kids. When we play older games, we remember where things are, what to do, where to go, so they should naturally go faster.

A tip that I didn't know about from the original: The first Jump move that Mario starts with permanently gets stronger every time you use it. It caps out eventually, but it gets strong as hell. Easily Mario's best attack. To the point that it's useless to pick Magic for his level ups. And with how easy it is to restore FP (save flower tabs to restore FP to full in between Inns/chest Mushrooms), it's really easy to use Jump like 90% of the time to get those numbers up.

Only pump attack. Win every time.

Reviews are trickling in. Seems it's pretty much a remaster with some new cutscenes, more fleshed-out minigames, and of course the new combat abilities. Most everything else is a 1:1 recreation which i'm just fine with. The OG is a perfect game as it was. They are mentioning that even on the hardest difficulty the game is a breeze, but again, I'm fine with playing something that isn't a slog. I love the original for being a simple, just fun experience with little stress. This sounds like more of the same. I'm excited.

It's all dicks and airplanes
Damn the music instantly hooked me with nostalgia.
Just a fun, no bullshit game. I miss stuff like this.

9 hours and 40 minutes to beat the main game, including 100 super jumps, grinding to 30, all hidden chests and beating Culex, just got post game stuff to do now.
Update, 12 hours pretty much on the dot for all the post game content, your mileage may vary depending on how good you are at Super Jumps, and a couple of the post game fights require strategy, I didn't die to anything during the main game but I died once each to 2 of the post game bosses.

Got the first star piece in under an hour so maybe my calculations were off and this thing will be over with quickly lol
Still hitting me hard with the nostalgia with the SFX and music, feels like an extremely faithful remake

Finished the entire thing plus new post game in 17 hours. I feel like it went faster, even on base difficulty. The buffs for landing correct timings make you plow through enemies a lot quicker and the special enemies beef up your XP gain and your frog coins. The overflow inventory going to storage and having room for 10000 coins are also really helpful.
Only things I haven't done are capping the minigames (including the super suit jumps; I got the scarf but I don't want to bother grinding the 100 jumps), turning the mystery egg into the lamb lure, and 200 wins on look the other way for the starfish summon.

Who's driving? Oh my God Bear is driving! How can that be??
Wow I am so out of the loop on new switch games and holy shit I almost yelled when I saw this thread. This game has so much nostalgia to where I even have some of the soundtrack on my music playlist. This was definitely my first RPG and made me fall in love with the genre.

Yeah I finished in about 12 hours. I didn’t bother with the jumps or lamb lure. Was fun, I appreciated them adding in some post game stuff.

I had a save that I left at booster tower, but my emulator glitched and I lost this save and my pikman 4 save.
Guess I'll return to this when the baby is old enough to play Vidya lol
