No one is asking to make the alliance raids balls hard. There is a difficulty above faceroll after all. There is nothing really memorable about the EW a.raids. We don't even get mechanics that take advantage of the fact we have 3 separate parties aside from 3 simultaneous tankbusters cause there are 3 tanks.
The game needs some 'pain' points outside of the hardest content. It's way too sanitized now. I have 0 excitement for any of the dungeons because we all know exactly how safe they are, 2 trash packs > boss x3 copy paste onto all 14 Dawntrail dungeons.
my assumptions are something like, first raid being Xarcabard into Castle Zvahl which ends in Shadow Lord fight, at the end of which Kam'lunaut and Eald'narche show up with the Ark Angels, Raid 2 is Sky where we fight the AA's Divine Might style ending with Eald'Narche, Raid 3 is Sea with us fighting Promathia at the end. If anyone else has a better or alternate thought I'd love to hear it, but honestly when I remember FFXI those are the most iconic fights for me, I know we got Lilisette/Lilith and things involving Iroha, but I honestly can't see either of them playing a bigger role then maybe as a function of us somehow time traveling via Atomos or something?
You see "pain" points, I see groups griefing like aiming the linear shot from the ships in the Nier raid toward the other group. Not everyone's in it for that sort of funny haha. And even if not deliberate, wiping because another group can't get their shit together, particularly if the sort that prefers going in blind, is never fun. Having had groups wipe on the 3 Atomos leg of first CT is dumb, and that's a direct consequence of isolating.
dungeons are always going to be piss easy. They're experimenting with 4-man difficulty elsewhere. If EW and what you've seen of DT so far isn't what you're wanting, probably best off taking a break for the next expansion or two, because their priority is going to be keeping the the majority of the playerbase happy while they dip their toes into developing what you're looking for
theyre talking about alliance raids though
Yes, I should stop playing because I don't enjoy one aspect of the game as much as before (alliance raids). And I've long accepted that dungeons are boring tome-farm trash. Good thing they released Variants and Criterions this expansion to spice it up and are continuing it in DT.
You said you’re running on copium, I suggested a break. If it’s such a small thing, don’t be so dramatic
Also, I feel like this set of Alliance Raids stuck the right balance of difficulty for 24 man randos.
Whether it's WoW or FFXIV, no matter what they do to/with (the) raids, it'll please many people, and piss off others. There's never a 100% success rate of content where someone, somewhere doesn't complain about something.
During the FINAL FANTASY™ XIV Fan Festival 2024 in Tokyo, SQUARE ENIX® announced that its critically acclaimed MMO FINAL FANTASY XIV Online has reached more than 30 million registered players globally and revealed new information about Dawntrail™, the fifth and latest expansion pack, set to launch in summer 2024.
During the opening keynote, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida revealed pictomancer as the second of two new jobs arriving in Dawntrail. Pictomancer is a magical ranged DPS job that works in the medium of mixed aether, wielding a specialized brush to render their imaginings reality. Yoshida also unveiled the female Hrothgar, a new playable race also arriving with the launch of the expansion.
Additionally, the keynote also featured a number of new additions coming in Dawntrail, such as a new city, areas to explore which can be seen in a walkthrough video and raid series:
- New Job: Pictomancer – Works in the medium of mixed aether, wielding a specialized brush to render their imaginings reality. These creations include not only creatures and weapons, but landscapes as well. As evoking such wonders takes time, the Pictomancer also keeps instant-cast abilities and spells at the ready.
- New Playable Race: Female Hrothgar – The Hrothgar people hail from Ilsabard. A Turali people with shared ancestry, The Xbr’aal, call Yak T’el home.Females number relatively few among the population, but are readily identified by their lithe, muscular forms. Equally distinctive is their predisposition for leadership.
- New City: Solution Nine – A city of towering facades constructed by an entirely different civilization than that of Tuliyollal.
- New Area: Heritage Found – In this region overflowing with lightning energies, thick thunderclouds blot out the sun, while streaks of purple levin illuminate the land day and night.
- New Raid Series: The Arcadion
- A New Ultimate Raid: Futures Rewritten (Ultimate)

- A New Limited Job: Beastmaster

Shame they didn't partner with Nvidia or AMD for the graphics overhaul. DLSS/FSR would've been nice. RTX looks good in this game even with just the plugin so an official implementation would've been amazing.
Yoshida confirmed in a magazine interview that Dawntrail relics will be back to normal. He mentioned Zodiac weapons but they won't be as bad as that, will have multiple paths like Bozja. Admitted Endwalker ones were too easy and took player feedback about feeling rewarding into account when designing the new ones.
Thank fuck.
Very good
June 28
Oooh, that’s a lot sooner than I thought. I was thinking probably August. 4th of July weekend gaming session gonna be fun as long as the servers stay up.
Yoshi based for saying they wanted to release earlier but everyone is probably going to be playing Elden Ring DLC
I'll summarize some of the other things he mentioned too. Most of it was rehashed from famitsu etc but anyway
-acknowledged that xiv gameplay can feel repetitive particularly for skilled players and they're planning to address that and make the gameplay more interesting, difficult, varied, "fulfilling"
-Hinting toward not having scripted mechanics in some things
-1.5x the amount of rewards though he didn't say wtf that means. Says he wants our subscriptions to feel like they're more worthwhile as a way to give back. Specifically talked about how formulaic the whole "1 primal means 1 mount" thing is.
Furthermore, CE mount is Ark from ff9 this time. Similar to Cruise Chaser, is transforms to an airship in flight and a mech when "walking". Also Garnet minion and Chocobo Brush for PIC/PCT/PTM
