Thanks again, @ArmenianStalin.
It’s gonna be like the earthquake scene in the universal studios tram tour
The rains in Jaunary were worse. Helps that it is 70°F and tropical and not a frigid 55°F. This was so overblown.
The earthquake was the more interesting thing to happen today.
Have you been outside? It's a big fucking mess already, and the eye is technically still near SD right now; the whole back end of the system is coming next. Much of the city is experiencing flooding, and the rain will continue at this pace until 4am. The winds finally arrive at 11pm, and will last through 5am. There's gonna be palm tree debris everywhere tomorrow; landslides in the hills closing (more) roads; flooding of surface streets and (more) interstates.
I'm most worried about some of those hellacious mudslides that California occasionally has.
It wasn't that bad. Was expecting more wind and power outages. Got none of that. Now if it was sustained 40-50mph winds and a slow rolling system then yes it could have been worse. This was slated to be like 12 hours hanging over the greater LA area. It was closer to 6-7 hours of heavy rain and the now tropical depression is a bit of a ways through Nevada.
The storm drainage system in the SFV did its job. It all flowed into the river/Sepulveda flood control basin.
The flooding over the deserts was a given considering the water has nowhere to drain to.
School got canceled today. I’ll take a day off!
Made sense, though, as so many streets are flooded. Schools have to assess damages, too.
Thankfully school I work at had minor issues. Parking lot is flooded in two spots and the field is flooded. So those areas are gonna get blocked off for tomorrow.
I feel bad for the plant manager at my last school. My classroom would flood over tiny rain. I can only imagine what it looks like atm.
The only thing I have seen of the hurricane is an unseasonable August rain here on the central coast. Started raining this morning and still going. Just a light drizzle though.
Glad to see no large loss of life or huge property damage reports so far.
Not to be outdone, the Atlantic basin has 2 named storms, 1 depression, and 2 tropical waves that could form at the moment
Tropical Depression Ten has formed in the gulf and could be impacting the gulf coasts of Florida as early as Tuesday
1st hurricane in the Atlantic
Franklin is a Cat 4 with max sustained at 145mph. But its east of the Bahamas and not expected to make any landfall as the current cone has it going west and then north of Bermuda
Idalia, however, is a different story. Currently a Tropical Storm at 65mph sustained. Should be a hurricane soon and is going to impact Cuba and then going to visit Florida

Idalia on course for a direct hit on me and this morning it was reported they expect it to reach Cat 3, though it may not be that strong on landfall. Ugh.
No I’m taking it with me
