The NSMB team has spent the last 4 years reinventing the wheel, and this is their result - a reboot of their flagship 2D platformer.
The new look is a refreshing and welcome glow up in the wake of the film's success.
Today's Nintendo Direct showed a ton of the features. Lots of fun, old ideas return (like stocking 1 power up a'la Super Mario World), but the game's loaded with new things too.
There's an ability/badge system, new online/local co-op stuff with passive worldwide online interactions. Yoshi takes on an interesting new role. I'm really digging all the little character expressions and interactions too. The nuance runneth over.
Growing up with the NES/SNES titles, this looks like tons of fun. Def grabbing it.
Preorders are already open! Arrives in about 7 weeks: 10/20/2023.
I hate living in a world where someone makes videos about Mario's voice actor, I want to be able to burst in on them in livestreams and beat the shit out of them.
I love people completely incapable of self-reflection, they're the best!
anyway I think I'll pick up the physical edition of this game, looking forward to it. was going digital until my friend reminded me that I have a shelf full of Mario games literally on display and it would go nicely with them. I miss the days of having a whole collection of physical media :/
Can't tell it's not even OG Mario, tbh, but so far it's pretty serviceable as a Mario title. It feels a lot like Mario World already but with a hint of New SMBW.
The badges are neat, but I do kind of wish I found more use for most of them. Dolphin one is great... when applicable. The two that I have that allow you to jump higher I've kind of felt "I wish I had that on" a couple times. Otherwise, it's just a feeling of "why shouldn't I just use the parachute?"
I did screw around for a couple levels using the spring one for the hell of it. I was unsurprised when I looked at twitch Wonder stream category and saw someone was already running a "Pogo %"
The more time I put into this game, the more I really appreciate how they did the co-op. Was hoping for a NSMB experience but this honestly isn't so bad.
