tldr - Performance on console is still bad

Overall game is getting great reviews, and the small bits I've seen in regards to PC performance suggest it's much better than the beta, though still pretty bad

ye grabbing a 89ish meta rating in spite of the universally lamented performance is a p good sign the game itself slaps but rip to your CPU bottleneck. haven't played since World but might jump in on ol girl. seeing some complaints about difficulty level but imagine it mostly applies to you who've been hunting monster since the womb.

This. As the game grows and become more "mainstream" the overall difficulty probably eases up from 2-3 generations ago.

Heard the same thing with World, and I still carted to low rank Anjanath. Bit surprising seeing it come from reviews, but the Monster Hunter community generally has their memories fixated on tempered/TU hunts and always forget that the base game eases you in the same way every time.

I started with 4U and bumbled through the entirety of the village quests not knowing that hitting different spots does more damage. The games haven't gotten that much easier but they've gotten light years more Intuitive and well tutorialized.

The games have absolutely gotten easier through most of the content up to and including a lot of G rank stuff.

But the absolute tippy top content have gotten to absurdly stupid levels to compensate for the insane power creep the games now have. In MHW especially the Tempered Elders and Fatalis were dumb as hell with their ability to pretty much randomly one shot you.

4U and Rise had the Guild/Anomaly quests that infinitely scaled up, MHW didn't have a similar system so they just went with the overwhelmingly strong event quests later in the games life.

The biggest change in the difficulty over the years was when they started scaling GH quests to number of players. None of the games have ever been difficult with 4 players, but G rank GH quests used to be pretty tough solo because of the massive HP of the monsters.

Having only played World on PS4, I can't say the game eased me into anything; it was fairly easy to progress until Anjanath and that was a brick wall. It was a common sentiment at the time. Hell, I almost quit the game over it because it just didn't click...until it did, and the rest of the game was just building on that. I don't think it's something the game can teach you though; you either get a "feel" for how monsters behave and interact with the environment or you just cart, and it's most pronounced in the beginning, where you can't use gear to brute force it. Those that get carried through it via flares are the trouble-makers in higher tier fights where you're reacquired to use everything you've learned.

There's always at least ONE monster that feels like a brick wall early on, Anjanath wasn't too bad for me personally cause I wrecked him with a bow, but man did Bazelgeuse blindside me when I got to it lol

Nothing will ever be worse than the first time fighting a Plesioth and that goddamn hip check.

I decided to spoil myself on some of the leaked and yet unrevealed monsters and I am excite, got a few we haven't seen for awhile (Generations notwithstanding since that had almost everything in it)

You have to understand that before world the game handed you the 14 weapons, gave one token tutorial mission for each that barely explained anything, and that was it. As I said earlier the games are still terrible at explaining the basic conceit of the combat but you can actually intuite it pretty easy now that damage is displayed on screen.

Prior to World the only indication that you were hitting a weakspot was paying attention to the color of the hit effect when you connected, which of course the game never bothered to explain.

Digging through damage charts on kiranico was for years the only way to know how to effectively damage the monsters, now the game gives you all the information just built in

If capcom didn't stop doing collector's editions, I would have gotten one to match my world one, but nooooooo.

Everyone was focused on difficulty, but the one thing I took from reviews was the lack of a real hub and Meowster chef. So this is good to immediately see.

I'm still stuck out of town on a project for a few days, so I'll be a couple days late from starting.

I worked 10 hour days so that I can take tomorrow off. Dunno if I want to stay up and play at midnight EST or just go to bed early and get up at 6-7. Probably the latter, seems more old man friendly.
