Private equity could only buy an operate Tiktok on firesale because otherwise there is no reason (even for them) to believe they could add value to it.

Shouldn't this fact lend credence to the feds claims in the first place? If ByteDance is seriously willing to completely walk away from the US market vs. ...walking away from the US market with a gigantic bag of cash, then one could surmise that there is something they absolutely do not, or perhaps cannot, disclose/give up under any circumstances?

It actually already happened, RT/Russia Today as a news broadcast/youtube channel starting back in 09.
It took until the invasion of Crimea for fark/reddit/etc. to stop linking them as a serious source, but the damage was done.
