Is it just because Russia doesn't have a super popular social media app? Maybe Putin should make one.

So stop Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others from peddling said info....or having them do any fact checking whatsoever which none of them are doing. Government isn't trying to enforce it in any way either, so why do I give a shit about China doing the same through their TikTok. Again if the "disinfo" is "hey your country sucks ass and is pretty shitty to the poor people and Luigi is fucking awesome" then I give 0 fucks. If congress had turned this into a "We need to ban TikTok and other social media apps if they don't have an active information checking method available on all posts" then i'm 100% for it. And before anyone's smooth brain thinks this is excusing China for it's numerous human rights violations (which i said we're on a spectrum of abuse and America ain't the good guys either but not as bad as China is to its own citizen... yet) Facebook has incited civil uprisings, elected 45 the first time, destroyed Boomers' critical thinking skills, openly steals users data and spies on them. Zuck has been in multiple congressional hearings and now he has a seat at the head table.

Tiktok could be messed with yet somehow a large majority of people from both parties, were able to agree to ban it? They can't even agree to increase the amount of money hurricane victims get for relief efforts.

But look, the Chinese don't allow American social media apps to function in their country (because their country is wildly unfree and they actively fear exposing their citizenry to the truth) - as a simple matter of trade policy it makes sense to not allow their apps access to ours.
