You might not even be able to motivate these people to stay home, let alone change their vote

What he was trying to say without getting cancelled is they focus on black and brown and I'm white.

It's a waste of effort to even say it but equality comes at a cost to the one leading. Why anyone in the leading category would want to give that up is incredibly stupid. You're all going to blow a gasket about that, but it is what it is.

The thought that Democrats can't improve white lives cause they'll be too busy improving brown and black lives is ignorant, and wrong.

It IS wrong but it also is often how Dems present it through shitty marketing and GoP do so much better at spinning it. Tons of shit Dems push for both helps disenfranchised people of color in cities but also helps rural farmers and da white folk too but they have marketed everything they do around identity politics for a bit now and it comes off as the Dems only want to help minorities in the city and fuck the working class and white people and when coupled with all the means testing bullshit it sours people a ton.

1st hand perspective, my dad had diabetes in rural upstate NY. He couldn't keep a job due to constantly being in the ER due to blood sugar tanking, because of that he couldn't afford insulin. He filed for assistance from the government multiple times and had to jump through tons and tons of hoops to where he died a week before they finally awarded him assistance (after 2yrs of filing paperwork over and over again). He would talk about how other people he knew who were black/Hispanic were getting the same assistance in a quarter of that time for the same needs. When I was college at the start, I had to submit a plethora of paperwork EVERY single semester to prove I deserved the max Pell grant award since my family income was like 25k a year max. Meanwhile classmates I would talk to who were from NYC, had come up for how easy it was to score pell grants and other assistance in that rural community since they were minorities.

Does that mean that's how it is? Nope not at all, but the general vibe from that entire community was "The Dems don't give a shit". Hell when my mom needed help because the post office fired her for claiming carpal tunnel from the job and took her to court the only politician that helped was a Republican, Schumer and the rest in NY never responded to her and to this day she talks about that. Schumer wanted to get away from the working class as the backbone of the Dem party and he succeeded lol

You guys act like fringe maga are a completely overwhelming percentage of GOP voters. As if mountains of data don't exist showing his drop in approval reflecting 2020 Republican/Trump voters casting special election ballots for Democrats. The assumption every voter always votes straight ticket misses this pliable middle that isn't politically plugged in and vote as the wind blows. No one is expecting a mass exodus of men that fly maga flags from their lifted dodge ram, but those are the ones highlighted when these discussions happen. Marginal movement in support from those politically party ambivalent voters shift elections.

People act like that because actually running into one of these mythical people you always speak about in this context is like finding an albino unicorn. I have never met a single GOP voter that would switch sides and the idea of any of the ones I know even entertaining the idea is utterly laughable.

The video Salodin posted IS, at least to me, in my lived experience, the archetypical non MAGA GOP voter. They may have a massive list of grievances with Trump and the party platform but at the end of the day voting for a Democrat is so existentially abhorrent to them that they'll never do it. You have to hope they'll stay home because if you get them in that ballot box they are going to check that red box.

Fringe MAGA aren't the only ones that consider voting for a Democrat to be equivalent to blasphemy.

I get it, the data is the data. It's just incredibly hard to live a daily life going years and years and never running into anyone like that - with the vast majority being full throttle supporters to this day - to reconcile the data with that reality.

I guess if I had to theorize where these people would be most likely to exist, it'd be in communities where they're a significant minority, politically speaking. Somewhere that they're either outright embarrassed or afraid to say they're GOP, or where they're constantly getting fed reality from comparatively sane people around them. Or both.

I find it impossible to believe that there are some significant number of fence sitters in any kind of conservative heavy area. MAGA country is a constant party. It's like Trump solved world hunger every day in those places. There's no way they'd feel embarrassed about their vote if they're hanging around with dozens of people that reinforce your beliefs 24/7. I mean, it's like that here and it's the bluest county in TN by a mile.

Is the "cost" worse than damaging almost every aspect of your daily life and your family's futures, possibly irrevocably? Worse than massive global destabilization, the cost of everything going up, wages going down, rights for EVERYONE being eroded, and society overall being reduced to a serf class under the thumb of corporate technocrat overlords?

The answer for probably 95%+ of these people is yes, infuriatingly... is it yes for you? You seem to imply so.

Or...just maybe...it's people you don't talk politics with because they're politically disconnected?

Do you guys literally talk politics with everyone you meet?

You're gonna make a mint with the FDA poised to shut down compounding next month. I'm going to have to look for an alternative myself.

The party has been shifting towards identity politics for multiple decades. Backlash against helping POC over white people was why Reagan was so wildly successful. The former Democrats that Trump termed used to be called Reagan democrats for a reason.

Clinton's ability to speak to working class white voters so that they didn't abandon the party was part of the reason why Third Way was so successful, but it was a temporary reprieve. Richard Rorty wrote about how critical identity would alienate the working class whites and lead them to a populist authoritarian all the way back in 1996.
