I was really sad to see this in the news. That show is really fun to watch. My wife and I enjoy it. One thing I saw that was wholesome and really sad was that Fritz and his business partner were good friends and partners for a long time way before they were on TV. It wasn't a manufactured relationship just for the show.

Seems more to me like he wasn't really in contact/estranged from some of his family, which makes it not unreasonable for them to be unaware that he died.
