Let's talk keyboards a bit. (So okay thinking about repping my old faithful.)

So okay, I finally went to wash my Logitech Washable keyboard (That thing has been a TANK other than the letters wearing off.)

..The F11 key and F12 key popped off, I was lucky to find them to pop them back on. Mind that keyboard is not made by Logitech anymore so I can't get the same one.

So since that incident is making me think about replacements; What are some good keyboards that take a likkin' and keep on trucking? It doesn't have to be washable tho I like that; I might just get a rubber cover since I do eat around my pc.

Keycaps coming off is a completely normal keyboard feature... As is being washable as long as you don't use anything corrosive and allow it to dry completely before plugging it back in. Realistically the keyboard should never be dirty enough that anything besides the caps need to be cleaned.

True but what's worrying me is a lot of the keys have had the text wear off over the years, so I'm thinking that soon it might be time to replace the keyboard. Since those two keycaps were _really_ small it scared me since you CAN'T get new keycaps for this keyboard, so yeah YIKES. I was lucky I found them. (Think pop off and went flying, took me a good 15-20 minutes to see where they went)

Anyway I don't think any modern keyboard has the ability to be ducked IN THE SINK and washed, and then you're able to use it the next morning after you leave it in the dish drainer. That's how this one is; and that's what I was doing since well..it was grody.

If you just generally want a new keyboard you can get a keychron or royal kludge or something relatively cheap. All the parts on them are easily replaceable if they every get lost or die down to the individual key switches. Wouldn't recommend dunking them in the sink though, would recommend compressed air and separately washing the keycaps. I know people can and have run their keyboards through a dishwasher but that's so unnecessary.

Bonus points: the keys are and can be replaced with ones where the legend is molded into the plastic itself... So it'll never wear off.

Prothesar; that's what I expected, but I'll look into that. Might even be able to save the brush from this one to get crap out from between and my erm..electric duster. (I got this one since I figured in the long term it's cheaper than buying canned air: Electric Duster)

And that sounds like just the ticket; I'm just rough on keyboards to be honest and I wear text off if it's printed on there.

I've seen high end mechanical keyboards that go for 100+, and if you know what kind of switches you like you can really find the exact thing you're looking for if you want to spend the money.

But I don't want to spend the money. I do know I prefer brown switches for the mechanical click, but the noise of a blue switch is too much. I ended up getting this awhile back (for a little less but inflation I guess) and I like it. It is a little small sometimes, and if I spent the time and money im sure I'd find better, but it's worked great for me so far and I like the lights at night.

Thanks Salodin. Not sure if I'd be fond of a light up but really, I just want a good solid keyboard that'll last me for a while though a lot more games and typing. ^^

And I agree; a custom would be sweet but I don't have that kind of money really. Heck at one point I even considered one brand with O-Ring silencers since I also type hard, so I'm loud on most keyboards. REALLY loud. I just never got the money to do it before my sister died (who was the one complaining). Won't need that NOW but rather make sure the keyboard's not so loud that my other brother could hear me in the master bedroom..

I was really picky about my last keyboard replacement because I like mechanical but just hate the clicking. I ended up just getting a Razor Huntsman V2 mostly because Razor's red optical switches were the least clicky ones I could find. I'm sure there are cheaper keyboards out there with similar switches and better dampeners though.

Any linear switch (reds are linears) will be clickless while also having a bit less tactility. Louder keys are the ones like Blues, with browns being somewhere in the middle. If you get into the esoteric world of enthusiast switches you've got things like oil and aqua kings which are extremely smooth and silent. You end up hearing the sound of your keycap bottoming out on the baseplate instead of the key itself.
