Biden needs to politic on the economy by lying more basically:

Bill Clinton was a master at telling people that he is feeling their pain. Was he really feeling it? We doubt it, but he was very good an convincing people that he was. Joe Biden hasn't gone there yet, even though the economy is one of his weak spots. Instead, he has been telling the voters the actual truth: The economy is very good. Nearly anyone who wants a job can find one, the stock market is roaring, inflation is down, and wages are up. But it is not working. People are thinking: Milk costs more now than it did 3 years ago and it is Biden's fault. Simply telling the voters the truth doesn't work.

Democratic strategists, like Brad Bannon, are urging Biden to stop trying to teach Economics 101 to the voters and simply say: "I know you're suffering, but we're making progress, and we will continue to make progress if I have a second term." Biden hasn't done this because he (rightly) believes the economy is in good shape—and nonpartisan economists agree with him—and he doesn't want to suddenly start apologizing for a (nonexistent) bad economy. He wants to take credit for the economy actually being so good (although the credit belongs much more to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell).

As with so much in politics, reality doesn't matter (and never has). It is the perception of reality that matters, and the popular perception is that the country is in a recession and inflation is roaring. We can understand Biden's reluctance to agree that things are awful when they are not, but that is what it might take.

The problem is that immigration is a specifically Congressional authority via the Consitution.

I was asking about House Republicans saying they were not going to let the IRS roll out free e-filing because it didn't get Congressional authorization. I thought the IRS would have control over that sort of thing.

And yeah, Biden is screwed on the economy. It doesn't matter what it's really doing when right wing media has spent 3+ years saying Biden's economy is the worst in the country's history. They hear it constantly, see eggs are still 5x what they should cost, and say Fuck Joe Biden.

Right now, IRS could say fuck off Chevron deference to Agency expertise. After SCOTUS kills Chevron this/next month, all bets are off.

The main talking point yesterday and today on conservative news talk is about how it looks like Biden pooped himself during the D Day ceremonies. Yes, seriously lol

Of course it is. All the magatards are wearing "Real men wear diapers" merch, why not dunk on Biden for being a senile old fool that poops himself?

His speech focused on the dangers of fascism so yeah, of course conservative media wants viewers to ignore the substance of it.

Hunter Biden found guilty on federal gun charges, for lying about being a drug addict when making a gun purchase.

It's funny to think if this happened to Eric during Trump's presidency he would have been pardoned in 5 seconds.

I can't believe Joe Biden is the first president with a son as a criminal. Some how this is worse than Trump.

I bet Biden secretly doesn't care if Hunter goes to jail. He has been a thorn in his side for years.

Nah I think Joe legitimately wants the best for his son, but I think the conviction is actually good for Joe politically.

Overall there's a net gain between the fact that 1) it helps to disprove the idea that the system was rigged and 2) it shows the Democrats respect the rule of law because he accepted the verdict and didn't meddle. I think those outweigh the potential losses of anyone who would vote against him because of his son's involvement in a minor charge.

NYT agrees that Hunter's conviction is overall a win for Joe (if for no other reason than it denies Trump avenues of attack/fundraising)
