Getting the most out of a gfx card

Thank you very much everyone! I feel confident with tweaking my voltage etc. and have made some changes so I can keep my laptop open which seems to help greatly with cooling. This is the sort of knowledge and progress I was hoping to have going into this discussion. Few things are as frustrating as not having a base level of understanding and tools to make educated improvements/tests with.

If modern laptops were anything like the MacBooks of yesteryears I used, you generally keep them open under load, since the main chassis radiates the heat out everywhere in addition to the exhausts that the fans are trying to direct heat towards. It lets more air pass over the body (keyboard) rather than being hampered by another barrier (the display).
