It's one of the reasons I still have my Wii U.

Had to drive 30 mind to nowhere to grab a copy for Switch at Gamestop, but I got it.
Did not expect this thing to be so hard to find. Physical copies sold out almost everywhere, Amazon is on a 3+ week shipping delay, and Target/Walmart didnt even list the Switch version it seems.
I got the Monarch Edition for Switch but Best Buy was the only place I found out of every other online retailer that still had any in stock.
the story does not even begin to compare (largely generic drivel tho it's so relentlessly optimistic and bright some of the silly character stuff is growing on me) but gameplay-wise this blows Ogre Battle 64 out of the water.
splitting combat between AP and PP, the greater potential for debuffs and buffs and synergy, the operational assists and stratagems and leader attributes, and most importantly FFXII's if-then gambit system returning and allowing for far greater tactical control and complexity re combat behavior.
on top of that you got what i think is the best strategic element wedded to TRPG combat since X-COM 2. exploring the open world map, side quests, grabbing more party members, rebuilding and garrisoning towns, that silly mining minigame, all of it directly contributing to honors and money and items which directly improve battlefield performance while providing a nice little strategic base + reprieve for + from the battles. it's excellent. this is one well put together game.
Should I opt to go save Scarlett right away? Is there any drawback to just continuing to wander around finding sidequests for as long as I can?
there is not, i hate her character design so let her languish while i liberated every possible region around her
That is good. That is good game design. I gotta start looking up some of the more optimal unit builds because right now I am just kind of sticking people in units wherever I have space and I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of teams.
How's the performance on Switch?
Ok I actually dropped my Rebirth playthrough for this, and god damn this game is amazing. It takes just enough from Fire Emblem and adds it to Ogre battle and then turns it up to 11. It's interesting this coming just 1.5 years after Symphony of war. One feels like a modern MotBQ, the other OB64 is sick.

I just unlocked the Elf and Dragon areas, going to futz around the main place liberating stuff for awhile longer though.
i'm halfway through Dragon, good spike in difficulty that i appreciated. but ye there's a ton of side content in the main location, this a big game
Finished everything there is to do in the first map, going to take a bit of time now to research the best formations for all these units I've got and reorder my squads before moving on to dragons and elfs.
Having a real hard time finding any use for Gladiators like Bruno. Either too squishy or just not hitting hard enough to justify being squishy.
they excel with buffs and debuffs cuz they're squishy but they have a ton of HP + self-heal and have low DPS but damage entire rows. throw them in with witches clerics radiant knights etc
there's one optional fight with 2 gladiators and 2 witches that is a nightmare without a team comp that targets the backline, trying to DPS through the debuffs and self-heals is horrible
Damn, I thought I would do one dragonland battle and then move to elfland and keep alternating but the first elfland battle is a huge spike in difficulty.
Ok, found easier pickings in the desert and leveled up my team a bit, think I'm ready to start pushing into the mid-teens level battles on both sides of the map.
Ok most of the time I will be playing this on my 13 hr flight, I won't have internet. Any noob tips and tricks to keep in mind?
