Them's the rules.
It looks ridiculous because the guy was out by 57 miles, but Lindor was, I think, blocking the plate with his left leg/foot, which you can no longer do. You can't really say he was "in the act of catching" because the throw was there like 6 minutes before the runner was.
I don't think this rule is even going to make it to the All-star Break as currently written though. There are going to be way too many stupid-looking calls like this one.
MLB is now investigating Ohtani and his fired translator. This is going to get spicy.
