I would love an Eden 2.0, I always said that the perfect private server is the one that truly mirrors era (no horizon custom bs) and is single box.

Right now Eden suffers from many problems, and for 2.0 to succussed it needs to address all these problems. Single box is one problem but there are many

1) Avoid having staff play the game.
2) Disable account sharing/inheritance. People having shared accounts with relics/100 crafts just there to use at any time ruined Eden big time.
3) Disable the ability for players to logout their characters in zones with HNMs (or limit them with some sort of a penalty).
4) Disable any kind of characters behind doors to open (ruined COP/missions experience to shout for any alt at door x)
5) Disable alts on mining points
6) be careful on who you take from Eden as staff to this server (many known power tripping mods). Well most of them play the game so that invalidates #1

and this is a big one but consider limiting/disabling mercing or selling of rare/ex items (at least not in yells/main channels like Horizon doing right now).

I basically listed everything I dislike on Eden, but single box is a big one.

I believe Horizon staff don't play the game. For many of what I mentioned you can simply have a simple penalty for someone logging out outside town (e.g. can't target NM/can't open door for x amount of time unless you go back to town and talk to moogle etc). Everything is unrealistic if you don't want it. Overall the goal is to get rid of the bads of Eden.

Staff are often too busy to really play the game, but they should in some capacity to keep them from becoming alienated from their labor.

Ain't poking heat here but lot of those things are just... disturbingly specific...

Those aside, with what I know of coding I feel like at least 2 of these would either be an absolute nightmare or downright impossible, for instance, I doubt theres any actual way to limit specific areas quote "Behind doors" to disable logging out. Like take as an example the Altepa gate, like Quicksand caves behind there is part of a greater zone, can't just designate a specific grid region for "not logging out" unless you just disable for for both all of Quicksand Caves and all of Western Altepa to prevent 1 instance of "gate opening", and at that point even if you did find a way to do that, you can't stop people from force DCing to "log out", and if you enacted some sort of penalty, then you kill those zones cause RIP people with bad connection or a server going offline by error. This goes for HNM zones as well, especially HNM zones since you know, heavily populated, higher chance of disconnected or killing the zone for private servers.

I'm not saying its impossible to disable a zone from being able to "log out", just that it does more harm than good, and also, this is suppose to be a "No alt server" so a lot of those issue probably wouldn't happen anyway lol.

While multi-boxing and related perks is certainly an advantage compared to those who won't or can't, simply limiting people to one account with their main character and maybe 2 mules for storage and AH slots would mitigate a lot of that. The general HNM problem is one SE otherwise went on to address through the pop system and later expansion activities, but... y'know, kinda bringing it on yourself insisting on "classic" play and fueling the bullshit of yesterdecades.

The hate on dual box is mostly due to Wings PR about how awfull Dual Box is when they made their single box server, there are some issue with unlimited char but the dual box one is exagerated, I remember posting on Reddit and being spammed in DM by anti Eden people making non sense about dual boxer

What was once more about an element of skill with multitasking and macro setups is now a simply automated endeavor of send commands, scripts, automation (especially heal bots), or pet spamming. Where a player can make two BLMs, put it on follow and double MB or just double blood pact. Otherwise it is a permanent buff job that follows the player.

This often happens amongst those who play more often, meaning that they end up competing/brushing up against others for drops, slots in party or as a job, etc. It allows a group of players to otherwise complete content they wouldn't have been able to without the extra boxes. When this comes to claiming NMs or HNMs it means a reduction in your odds and rewards if you lose claim to such a group. The incentive also being that there is less ways to divide rewards when you don't have an actual body there. This also ends up leading some to be excluded or less desirable in grouping, especially if you don't dual box as your relative weight to the group is reduced. Plus, an increase to the supply of items on a server, meaning groups earn even less. No matter if one dismisses the level of the effect, it is there, and all these things add up.

Further, it makes others who don't want to dual box feel compelled to. This group is likely a large group of the player base. While the game isn't intended to be equal or even fair and nor should it be. The feelings of unfairness this causes among players is needless and not overall healthy for the community of the server.

When you don't have to even pay for a character, and a lot of servers have incredibly accelerated paths to getting another character to endgame in even just a single day sometimes. Then it really just leads to a degraded play experience where the only ones happy are the staff that the numbers are higher and the players who feel they are getting more done and benefiting themselves. The claims about it being required for low population or such really aren't valid because it is just a careless band-aid.

I don't really dual box on Eden, I never felt the need to dual box nor got excluded from a group, also no LS REQUIRE you to dual box to do anything, unless you have experience with group asking you to dual box or not allowed to join them, I will stay with it is a super exagerated issue
