What use are Ubisoft's Asian DEI hires if they can't even predict that the Japanese would go anti-black in the event of a race controversy?
I'm sure it's not just that there's a black guy. They're probably also mad the asian character isn't a short woman with huge tits and a big ass.
Ubisoft in shambles
For the first time in a long time I want a ubisoft game to do well mostly because racists wont stfu about it.
It's mostly Japanese people being very upset about the game, and I really don't blame them.
It's not just having a Black guy as the main charater.
The world trailer has chinese music, chinese backgrounds, people playing chinese musical instruments, wearing chinese clothing, and calligraphy in chinese.
What the hell was obisoft thinking ??
It is 100% not "mostly" Japanese people lol. I'm sure they are part of it too because they are xenophobic. But it's a bunch of white dudes as well.
And guess what, all of that is still racist AF.
The floating door in the trailer is really what cracked me up.
I mean maybe? But thats still based on that fact that it makes some people go REEEEEEEE about it. Despite the fact that they based it on a real life person.
The issue for me is they have yet to base the playable character on a real figure in history. It was generally always some fictional ancestor to the character, and that was the excuse to do the fun "meet some historical figures of this era!" fictional bits, which is where Yasuke would have fit in. They had no issue making the female protag Naoe a fictional character in comparison to him.
I'd have been as annoyed if it starred some named American, Spaniard, Chinese, etc, of that era as the male lead.
i can't imagine ever being in a place in my life where the race or gender of a fookin Assassin's Creed character would impact me
Delayed again until March 20th
Alright I finished it. I played it, a lot. Like 120+ hours. It's fine. I don't think it is as good as Origins or Odyssey, but it's certainly less bloated than Valhalla was. There are no supernatural/Isu stuff in the main game, but there is some wonky really out there shit with the Dead By Daylight and Attack On Titan collab event.
They offer you dialogue choices but they ultimately don't matter, despite what you choose. If someone is supposed to die, they will die. If they are supposed to live, they will live. Don't even know why they included the illusion of choice in dialogue if it was just going to end the same anyway, but oh well.
Interesting narrative decision by letting you play Yasuke very briefly in the tutotrial, but then you are locked into using Naoe only for the first dozen or so hours of the game. They desperately want you to like using Naoe because by the time you do get to use Yasuke again, he's a fucking tank and absolutely game breaking. All of the traditional AC stealth stuff goes out the window with Yasuke and he is full on action hack & slash. I mean yeah, you COULD still use Naoe to sneak around and assassinate shit if you want but she is soooooooo weak if you get caught in open combat in anything other than 1 vs 1 you are going to get wrecked. Meanwhile Yasuke can literally run through walls and murder entire castles and forts full of guards by himself just fine.
Exploration can be a little annoying. It's actually best for you to stay on the roads and use the pathfinder option because the old adage "the shortest distance between two points is a straight line" is quite untrue here. Japan features so many mountains and trees you will find yourself running through blinding brush and shrubbery and sliding down mountainsides repeatedly. Instead take the long way around on the roads and find your way up the game's recommended paths and you'll get there much quicker.
Combat is decent under Yasuke and annoying with Naoe. Theres a good variety of different armor and weapon sets for both, and I appreciate they give you a glamour system so you can lockstyle something instead of getting rid of your favorite pieces because of stat increases as your levels go up.
I don't feel like there was ever any need to grind XP or levels out like some people reported in Origins and Odyssey. There are plenty of activities here to keep you busy and supplement your XP, with some being more fun than others.
The DLC Claws of Awaji is needed if you want to get the complete narrative conclusion which is pretty annoying. My copy came with a free code so wasn't a problem for me, but I'd be annoyed if I'd have to shell out an additional $15 or so if I wanted the conclusion to the main narrative. The DLC does implement some interesting twists that I wish were included in the main game, like enemies setting up traps and ambushes for you. Would have made the main game a little spicier.
Overall, Odyssey is still the king of the AC RPG style games in my opinion, but I feel like if you are a super fan of the series, it is a satisfying entry to finally, FINALLY, have an AC game set in Japan.
Final update is dropping on June 16th and will conclude the “modern day” story stuff they’ve been adding with each patch. It will also be a crossover event with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Not sure how they plan to pull that off considering the two timelines are separated by about 150 years but I guess we’ll see.
Modern day stuff is still going on??
