Now having read through the thread I know what I was supposed to be doing. Whoops. Although I missed a chunk of content (that I'll go back for) I didn't have any problems through the end of the game.

Doing basically everything except the final story zone was maybe not the smartest choice, just basically one shot everything including the final boss.
Just great stuff tho, I think I did the "bad" ending
There's multiple endings? :O
Yes, but as far as I can see the game doesn't let you immediately go back and do the other ending (you'd have to do a new game +), I'm watching the other one on YouTube right now
Are there any non spoiler ways to say how to determine which ending to get?
Eh, not really other than just paying attention to the story and choosing accordingly. There isn't any kind of achievement tied to it.
Go with whatever ending you get and then watch the other on YouTube.
maelle is just a fuckin freight train. also MVP pictos are cheater, the thing that uses 1 ap to prevent status effects, and the 20% gradient charge on crit
Yeah gradient charge on crit is obscene. Maelle can build like 60-70% of a Gradient Charge by herself in a single turn, and pretty easy to get 3 full bars by the time your team has made it through one rotation
I think I'm good on the game, 50 hours and really just achievement hunting at this point which I don't care about.
SSS, GOTY, etc. just fantastic all around other than
(non story, endgame content spoiler)

I just finished it and:

This game was fantastic. I cannot remember the last time I was able to finish a game and walk away from it with a sense of sadness that I finished it.
BBC made an article on how the project had developed. Also President Macron praised the game publicly on Instagram.

It deserves all the praise. From soundtrack to story, from world building to character development everything is top notch. They get the best out of all the other great ones out there, world design from Elden Ring, “Camp” system and character development from BG, battle system from P5 and JRPG-ness from Final Fantasy and so on.
I specifically liked the no nonsense, no BS approach of the characters to the situation at hand. Death is around the corner, there is an urgency and the game reflects that feeling perfectly. You aren’t getting sidetracked. You don’t have time for sidequests that ask you to do menial tasks. You are just trying to survive, or if anything, rally around a mission to ensure the well being of immediate future generations.
This makes the game completely plateau-free. Every section is exciting. This is the first RPG made me feel this way.
And the music, multiple battle and background themes for each zone? All awesome? Just wow.
My strongest GOTY candidate so far.
some of the trials at the end are fuckin rough lol. shit hits so hard and often
10-2 with the trio of Chromatic Chevalière was prolly the toughest.
The last trial was a lot easier then I expected it to be once I saw the matchup, they didn't have any complex animations to figure out the timing of
It's been a long time since I've really enjoyed an RPG and after this it will probably be a longer time. Knocked the genre out of the park.
I love the Chrono Trigger route they went with the final act. Can either go straight to last boss or do the buttload of endgame content there is, it's great
Act 3 spoilers don't click if not there
