Gustave's Theme (:17-:32) also has a very similar little sequence / ode to a beloved Silent Hill 2 song
p cool of Lorien Testard imo that man did fucking work dropping an all time vidya soundtrack and paying homage to some of the goats before him
Lorien Testard is as old as Uematsu was when he composed the Final Fantasy III soundtrack. This dude has a bright future.
Like the entire Sandfall staff is legacy Squaresoft stans. The CEO and Lead Game Designer both cite FF8 as one of their favorite games. Of course that material is going to influence their shit.
Bright future indeed, can't wait to hear what he comes up with for their/his next project.
One theme thats really sticks with me that ive not really seen many talk about is Forgotten Battlefield battle music, and i mean the one that plays for trash mob fights:
Like pretty much all the music in the game it goes hard AF but something about it just really hits hard for me.
I’m already picking up on SO many parallels between this and FFX and I don’t just mean the battle system. Story beats and characters are very similar. I want to finish the game proper before I drop my thoughts but my working theory which I will expand on later…unless act 3 goes in a WILDLY different direction is

Didn't realize the dude who sang Bury the Light is also the male vocalist in the Renoir fight
yeah, Victor Borba is on a few of the tracks for this game, Ben Starr also does vocals on one of the songs on the soundtrack
I completed all the nice nevron quests and got the 100 lumina reward and then went back to the Gestral village for the first time since the story sent me there and apparently I finished another quest I didn’t even know I had and it gave me another 100 lumina. So know I’m debating if I just want to make Maelle a WMD with ALL THE SKILLS or spread the love a little to my team lol
What gave you 100 lumina in Gestral village??
One of the guys in the vendor area had a quest to find 5 journals and over the course of the game I found them all but never returned to turn it in. Each journal turn in gave 20 lumina.
Lol I completely forgot about that guy and never got those. Played the game 100 lumina points down, FML
If your intent is to brute through the hardest content in the simplest way, Maelle one-shot is the most accessible crutch and making a solo build for her is the fastest route to that crutch, so buff her. You'll need the solo pictos from the Dark Arena that amp playing solo, but its much cheaper than making everyone in the party strong.
If you want to try to fight stuff "legit" then spread the points. You don't need to keep them on Maelle's level, but you do need to give them enough that they do useful things to amp Maelle. I personally designed around getting Maelle hitting four turns before the enemy (everyone using Cheater picto, Maelle fast enough that she moves first, then Sciel buffs her and makes her move again to get another round in plus Sciel with suicide Picto and all the buffs/debuffs on death)
Also I mentioned it before but for anyone needing Lumina the most exploitable farming Chromatic Danseuse in Old Lumiere. It respawns two adds every time it is alone, and the adds drop Color of Lumina, so you just keep killing the adds until you get bored. It's not respawnable, so you just gotta grind it once for an hour or so but you will get 1000+ drops.
You can only find it if you go back after you clear the city the first timeSpoiler: show
I was able to build a Maelle one shot build even while giving everyone the same number of lumina points. It's easily doable long as you level her up
Lumina are also endlessly farmable.

Been doing a lot of the act 3 side content, I'm level 80 and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna hit max level before I finish it all. Still need to do Endless Tower, finish the Flying Manor (only did one path so far), the Lamplighter boss, maybe a few hidden things I don't know about. Also, am I crazy or does it look like there is a HUGE chunk on the southwest area of the world map that is inaccessible? Kinda screams DLC area to me, at least I hope so.
I was super surprised at how much of the overworld is devoted to side content in act 3. There's an entire SE quadrant of the map that is inaccessible until act 3 that is also entirely skippable. So much love went into giving people more time to love this game.

Love Josh Strife and his vids and the full break down of all of the game's story and gameplay and everything else.
Started working on the Endless Tower last night and made it to the 7th trial without using Maelle cheese strats and finally said okay fuck this bring on the cheese! I had to go bed on trial 9 but hopefully I’ll finish the tower tonight
