It's a PR stunt for some awards show no one has ever heard of.
I'm pretty sure it was known they had used AI textures as placeholders since the week the game came out, so suddenly acting like they just discovered it this week is uh... yeah

Guess there's been a lot of backlash but still surprised 33 didn't take Steam's GOTY.
Some food for thought from the lead writer. Full game spoilers

Kind of surprised that 33 is so universally beloved despite act 3 kind of invalidating all of act 1/2 and feeling more like NG+ or a DLC
the narrative really doesn't either structurally or thematically work without the 'setup', getting to care for Gustave and Lune and Sciel and experience things as Maelle experiences them, and the foreshadowing is frequent and expertly done imo
you don’t have access to the end of the relationship quests until act 3 either, so actually finishing them and further establishing the characters/your bond with them also makes the ending more significant
Like it could have been a hell of a cliff hanger to leave off on Act 2, then have Act 3 serve as a sequel. But like I said, super unsatisfying unless Part II is 100% locked to follow. Much more important to ensure there was an actual satisfying conclusion to the narrative, especially for a studio on their first game.
Bro hasn't posted in two years and comes back just to drop the worst take of all time.
I respect it.
I lol'd
Idk, the fact basically that the rest of the party outside of the family do not matter. "Hey, you just painted us back to life and you can bring people back" okay, and that's the last we will talk about that. You get some backstory with the bonding at camp, but that elephant in the room is just kind of accepted? As for feeling like NG+ or a DLC, unless you go straight for Lumiere, fighting a few monsters in any of the optional areas basically makes you oneshot everything in Lumiere. Not even grinding like you would do in any other JRPG to over level yourself. Just a couple fights
I get that they matter to Maelle/Alicia, but it just becomes a different game/story after act II(Did Verso's ending btw)
It took a huge narrative swing and it paid off for a lot of people, but not everyone. I do know a couple people who feel the same way regarding the reveal in Act 3. It all comes down to how you much value you want to place on the lives of the people inside the canvas, I suppose (none because they are not real and Verso's ending is correct).
Spoiler: show
can i offer you a medium pepsi in these trying times
Gustave deserved a large Pepsi
Did you do the side stories in act III or just rush straight to the ending? Given the timing I'm guessing you didn't.
