The revelation of the entire world you’re playing in being some kind of artistic playground is ridiculous. Can Aline and Renoir not just get out of the canvas? All we get is some throwaway line about how “intoxicating” it can be to stay in the canvas world. They talk about it multiple times. It's easy to lose yourself inside the canvas, when you see the Paintress inside she can barely tell what's real and what isn't

Why did it take 60 something years of expeditions before a Maelle-Alicia copy showed up? Why was that even special to begin with? Huh? Alicia accidentally got sucked up into the ether (im forgetting the in world word for this) that Aline was painting with. This was never planned.

If Clea doesn’t care about the battle between Maman and Papa why should I? Who are the Writers? What the hell was the arson fire that killed Verso and disfigured Maelle about? This one is legitimate although I prefer to not really know more about the outside the canvas world's story because it would take away focus from the main plot of this game.

Sciel’s husband and child? Lune’s dumb OCD besides her parents?

What the fuck was even the point of Lumeire getting gommaged annually? Other than some stupid “warning” about how Maman’s power was waning. Was that really it? Aline was running out of power. She was using the gommage to slowly prune the population as she was unable to keep more of them going due to Renoir's interference

Holy shit the ending and everything about act three just seems like a lazy cop out. Oops watch out! Expedition 32 is out killing everything too! Cuz reasons.

They can but it's like a drug. Aline doesn't want to get out, which is a huge problem and it eventually would kill her and she can't be forced out in the real world. It's like Matrix rules. I don't get your hangup on the painted world.

Maelle showed up when real life Alicia went into the painting. It took "60 years" because time operates differently from the real world vs the painted world.

Clea DOES care about the battle, she wants it to end so Aline is forced out of the painting so they can focus on the war with the writers to get real world revenge for Verso.

We can assume methods of art have powers in this world. Painters, writers etc etc and for some reason the writers are assholes and started the fire for unknown reasons.

Yes, Sciel had a husband and child. Lune had a tough upbringing and had OCD. What's the issue? That's part of the story is whether or not you consider the painted world real or not.

Kinda sorta. The people of Lumieire didn't know what it was but it was to let them know they should enjoy their remaining time together. I don't know what you're talking about with expedition 32.

How is that weird? It’s thematically the entire point with all the bullshit about painted characters and the world itself.

And you side-stepped one of my biggest problems with the story. Clea has maybe a paragraph’s worth of dialogue and straight up tells you she doesn’t care about the Canvas. Go YouTube the scene to refresh your memory. The entire struggle is reduced to a glorified game of chess.

Regarding Expedition 32, they’re used as endgame fodder with zero explanation. They’re not Renoir’s creations so wtf? It’s just shock value.

This game was so damn good for two-thirds of the way through. But then it decided to become a shitty Nojima-ass exposition on life.

Even if I disagree, I can respect that xno looking at this game how I look at Star Ocean Til The End of Time.

The basic premise between the two are very similar, though this was written much better (but apparently not well enough in xno's opinion)

And we're not talking about big super secret side quests. The ones with actual weighty story implications are not exactly hidden away in remote locations of the world map.
