The feds are putting in 1k for kids BORN in 2025-2028. The 6.25B from Michael Dell will put $250 in the accouts for children born between 2015-2024 - IF those children live in a zip code where median income is 150k or less (which is most of them)

The action is fine, but many frame it as them helping the poor or the kids without admitting that the poor and kids are worse off because the very same people made budget cuts to their social safety net.

LINCOLN — In a blow to the local economy of Lexington, Nebraska, Tyson Foods announced that it is closing the town’s longtime Tyson beef plant that employed about 3,200 people.

The Arkansas-based Tyson said in a statement that changes were designed to “right-size” its beef business and position it for long-term success.

The Lexington plant is to close on or around Jan. 20. The statement did not elaborate on why the plant in the town of about 11,500 people was targeted.

The company said it also will convert an Amarillo, Texas, beef facility to a single, full-capacity shift and increase production at other company beef facilities. The number of layoffs from that eliminated shift is about 1,700.

I used to like Tysons, like, 20 years ago when I was younger. Nowadays I consider Tysons food to be like, the edible step above dog food. They have maybe 1-2 Products that actually taste like ok Chicken, the rest is barely classified as food.

That all said it fucking sucks for that town that they're basically going to collapse. I actually live in a small town right now that used to be a mining town, now theres a good part of it thats poorer because when the mine closed up shop a lot of people lost their jobs. So the folks left are generally just older or generational homes.

That said the towns still doing ok, I go down to Main Street for food every so often and they have events there a lot, so... Hope them in Nebraska pull through too. TBH in a day and age where our technology allows us to work from home, its a shame stuff like this can still just destroy peoples lives, which our businesses would catch up to WFM on a reasonable scale. Took me over a year to find my WFH.

A medical device rep was in today, not sure what he was pitching, but while sitting down for lunch, he talked about how some expected q1 products are being pushed back to q2 or q3 as businesses anticipate SCOTUS rolling back the tarriffs.

I never thought about companies doing this, but it makes a ton of sense. Q1 2026 will be interesting. Decent chance it goes to shit right in time for primary season.

Yeahhhh they had been losing money in the hundreds of millions a year since 2022. This is not on the tariffs.
