I understand your perspective but I don't think this situation should be focused around Spicyryan. FFXI has maybe a few thousand players, and a few hundred hardcore end-game players around the world? It's a small community, we should be protecting it from behavior like this and ensure that the community can thrive. This community should be insulated from any one person "taking their ball and going home." There should be a point, where when something is created, it belongs to the players. Again, not talking about Spicyryan in particular.

No one is advocating for players....but I guess it's just "if you want guides, go make your own". I don't think we should be allowed to leave temporary holes in our cumulative knowledge, especially for new players. The barrier for entry is high enough. Why are we making it harder on ourselves by allowing this happen?

I'm not accusing mods or admins of being "disengaged" ...but I'm asking what can we do / what is being done to make sure this doesn't happen again? If this happens again in 2030, do we have a date that we can collectively rollback FFXI's community pages and presence to a certain date?

What in the name of sock account.

But he’s right though, if I’m reading what he said correctly. BgWiki is a public space, he doesn’t own anything he contributed to it, deadmin his ass and just put the guides back up(where possible).

No reason to let someone with such a bone to pick ransack your wiki cause he wants to pick up his toys and leave. He’s free to go, the toys aren’t his.

I'm past Spicy being a colossal pr!ck to people for whatever his reasons (on the forums and in the game), and I speak from personal experience. I am fortunate to have had very limited interaction with him. I don't even care about him deleting content he contributed. My concern is what he can do to BG Wiki moving forward against others' content/contribution because his admin rights have been maintained.

I know Funkworkz is probably one of them. Bryth is also probably another. Anyone else I have no clue as they might never hardly post just to ignore the drama.

Despite anyone's personal feelings towards Spicy, he has done a great service with his guides and maintenance within BGWiki. It is not an easy thing to do thankless tasks, and inevitably everyone has a breaking point.

However, if he's going to be deleting information that people have been using for years, for personal reasons, that's where the line should be drawn. As mentioned, the contributions are now "public domain" and he has no right to just delete them on a whim. It is doing a great disservice to BGWiki and the community as a whole. And as the old cliche goes, the many outweigh the few.

Will someone fill the shoes and re-build it? Probably, but there shouldn't be a need for that, and what about other's edits on the pages that he started or fostered? Does he have the right to remove a page that others have contributed to? At what point will he be satisfied? If he is going to be doing questionable things, then it may be best to revoke his rights.

Hypothetical question, I'm the player who discovered where an item dropped many years ago, posted it to bg/wiki I'm credited on the page... By this specific logic I have every right to delete that info/page?

Its a dumb question to entertain but, I mean deleting the info would give me a leg up on market manipulation on my server.
This is wild to think about / entertain tho, this is widly public info I shouldnt be able to go on bgwiki and remove public info then prevent people from posting that info themselves because "I discovered it first".

Lets not act like I deleted 10 years of edits and information or haven't been still adding information to BG regularly during this.

Tell me why that matters in a 20 year old game? If you wanna play dibs with information that's public why can't I? So far you're proving me rihht, it's a dick move that's nothing short of jerking off to yourself.

You made years of updates good for you, it does not make you any less of child for what your doing lol

I mean, just restore them? Who fucking cares what spicy wants. Why should information be lost because he's being a twat? Let him quit if he wants, the job was only his cause no one wants it. When he's gone, restore the guides.

Make it make sense please, this drama is so low energy

Here's a link to a PDF version and also the raw HTM of the wiki page. Do with them as you will.
