Also, how's the PC optimization? I'm running a 3080ti and Ryzen 5900x with 32gb ram. Doubt I'm getting ultra settings with that?
There had been a paradigm shift between Ethernal and Dark Ages. Ethernal favored fast, always on the move, deathmatch type of very aggressive, “gegenpress” gameplay while Dark Ages is more focused on strategy and defense.

If you mean the mini cutscene finishers, they still exist. They didn't seem to last more than a couple seconds though.

iddqd ended up beating the game last night/this morning. I think he gave it a 7.5/10 and put his preference order as 2016 > Eternal > Dark Ages.

Don't want to mention much to avoid spoilers, but one of his big complaints was taking damage and either not knowing where it was coming from and/or attacks dealing damage before the attack animation ended (like before you would think to parry). He loved the shield addition to the game.

    anybody else in yet

only a couple levels so far but feels p dope, another iteration of 2016 but grounded and weighty and defense/parrying/melee matter a lot more. still frenetic and fun, shield rush is the tits. miss the elaborate gory kills + could do with a little less story tbh. id Tech engines remain unbeaten these bitches run so smooth.

Played the tutorial area on a quick work break. Had to reinstall right off the bat cause the game pass preload install was busted. Love the shield rush and the non reliance of glory kills so far.

That said, first game my 3080TI and Ryzen 5900 couldn't remain at 100+ fps on default settings (If I had Cyberpunk 2077, that probably would have as well) but god damn does the game look beautiful.

ID is just built different when it comes to optimization and smooth performance. Their games always scale so well. There's absolutely no stutter, which is even more impressive that even on medium the game has Ray Traced GI and reflections. There's a path tracing mode coming as well. It's really just not fair how much better they are at this than every other company, they don't even have a shader comp step when you start the game but it still is smooth as butter while looking amazing.

Digital Foundry put out their video about optimized settings which might help you squeeze out some more.

For most settings there's no point in going past High until they add in the path tracing update.

They worked some unholy black magic on the frame generation implementation in this game, can't notice the input lag even at 3x (which pretty easily gets the game to my refresh rate of 240 on my laptop so the CPU/GPU don't have to run full out balls to the wall and keeps fan noise at bearable levels)

Also, the hokey pokey part of the Dunkey vid ended me

Edit : re: frame generation, saw this bit from a techpowerup review about the games performance

Latency being basically identical is crazy

May play around with that then. At medium settings, I'm getting about 90ish fps on my rig. But I'm also probably due for a repasting of my gpu now. Going on 4 years and it pretty quickly hits my afterburner thermal limit of 83c.

Yeah... you should definitely be changing out your thermal material if you're hitting those kinda temps, modern Nvidia GPUs are generally operating well clear of their thermal limit

3080 TI has always ran hot. It's a few degree's below the bios thermal limit. CPU sits in the 60's, but I swear Doom is like way less intensive than D2 for whatever reason.

Also, some of these secret areas are damn well hidden. I'm on Chapter 7, yet to find any of the hidden toys. Only found 2 of the 6 secrets in chapter 1, etc.

Well I mean that's just kinda on you then dawg, a quick tab to see the local map after each fight is pretty much all it takes to know where the secret areas are.

It's 17% off on GMG, or at least at that amount in Canada. Helps take the edge off of the $10 bump up on newer titles.
Seriously, I don't know how GMG operates with what has to be razor-thin margins.

Also Melena, look into PTM7950 (or the Thermal Grizzly Phase Sheet equivalent) for your GPU. Shit is super easy to apply compared to old school thermal paste (or god forbid liquid metal) and can last like a decade.

It's what Nvidia themselves have been using since the 4000 series and lots of gaming laptop manufacturers use it as well.
