I got my dates messed up and thought it came out on Friday. But it's bed time now so I'll watch tomorrow.

Watched all 8 eps in one sitting, this was incredibly good.

None spoiler open commentary (contains only spoilers to references):

The references are hilarious. It seems this universe's Dante did a mission back in Racoon City. There's a Megaman figure on the truck. The SF2 arcade machine. And it seems like Capcom has enough Marvel relations in the bank to pull 1 or 2 direct and several subtle but not direct references.

I'm not sure which songs are original/pulled from a game or not, or remixed for that matter. There's stuff I recognise of course from the games but not all. I'm ashamed to say but way back even in 2004 when I played FFXI I heard of all the cut my life to pieces last resort macros in party chat, I've never heard the song until today. I am assuming that is the song everyone is referencing when they use those 2 abilities back then unless it's a remix.

Indirectly they managed to make use of and fit a Resident Evil episode into the overall plot. It was great and the feeling immediately hits you if you played any of the games.

There wasn't a single character I disliked, everyone has personality and charm.

I didn't like the OP theme, but I didn't mind the ED theme.

I didn't mind the voices. Hints of DMC5 Nero were infused into Dante here but it works. I don't mind. Dante's well represented here. Lady was amazing and completely on point, but I'm sad to see yet another voice actor playing as Lady and she wasn't pulled from any of the previous games or the 2004? anime. Regardless once again this voice actor nails her rashness/personality/swearing quite on point.

    Spoiler: show

EP1: I wasn't sure if this was a prequel or not. Most evident was that obviously Dante didn't have his sword and was playing DMC2 for the episode. The Vice Present being religious is a huge red flag. I bet he becomes the actual villain later lol

EP2: I still wasn't sure where this was going but the animations and fight scenes were alright. Then Lady shows up and very quickly goes against what's established in DMC3, so I can safely and quickly assume this is DMC3 the anime take 2. Also I missed it but where did the sword come from lol, I need to rewatch. But this all explains Dante's inexperienced and childish personality

EP3: Still wasn't sure where this might go. But I quickly didn't care and got excited for the whole series. Our antagonist shows up again and not only that, brings a representation of each of the game's bosses with him as his henchmen!!!

Plasma from 1! Ok technically wasn't a boss but hey it works, but differently
Agni AND Rudra from 3! Their interactions were great whenever they spoke
Viper from 4! Her size seems to be as big as she needs to be though so I thought that was kind of funny when I see her in different scenes
    Cavaliere from 5!

    Each with their own personality!

I didn't expect Dante to start fighting them on the motor(high)way but they went for it and it was great. Dante also started pulling out Cavaliere style moves from 5 with his bike. At this point I didn't mind anything anymore and the fun really started

I am convinced that the antagonist is Vergil, Rabbit-kun is displaying some good swordsmanship here and he has the other half the stone

EP4: This was a unique episode. We have Dante fighting close quarters (where was the plane going?) and Lady in a Resident Evil level. The tone, mood and feeling immediately changes when Lady is in frame for this episode. I wondered if the series would keep Lady's team on and this episode says nope and slaughters them.

Due to what Lady sees in the building and her stance shifting a bit it was nice to see the development

EP5: Devil Trigger revealed!!! WITH DMC5 SONG but remixed, I hope they play the entire thing though. I like the look but I wasn't sure what to make of the form. It looks onpoint but in its own way, unlike any of the forms in the games. But the design, feel, look and everything is all overall represented well.

EP6: Holy moly what an episode. It's a very nearly silent episode. Very good animation and drawing that's all very different to the main series. The music used was nice. But I was sad to learn the rabbit wasn't Vergil as I was really hoping he was since he exhibited super strength and good swordsmanship in EP2. But where did the stone come from?

EP7: VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL VERGIL (AS NELO ANGELO). So as it stands DMC3 is now fused with DMC1 in terms of plot elements

Calavliere remains. I HOPE THERE IS AN EPIC 1V1 HERE THERE NEEDS TO BE THERE'S NO REASON FOR HIM TO BE ALIVE LAST OTHERWISE

LADY'S SIGNATURE WEAPON APPEARS WOOOO! lol
Sorry, good shit hype here. As Takiwaki said, it's fun.

Fight was alight. Not as epic as I hoped. Vice President is back.

EP8: Too much going on for a final episode I was dubious in how it would wrap up but it's alright, a bit weak. If anything, Vergil where

Having Lady say jackpot though was great lol but the final fight was too anticlimatic for what it was. Devil Trigger Dante got more screen time during the middle of the anime than the finale.

The ending is a bit fucked though also interesting in its own way. We got Dante being put into stasis and we got the demon world being utterly fucked by humans and even having a base established there.

I don't know who the Vice President was with/looking at at the end scene though, the guy in a cloak/cape. Vergil showing up as the "hero" is an interesting take and the ending was fucking BADASS (the line, the song blend in, FUCK!!!! WHY END HERE!!!!) This is great now that he showed his real self because we can skip all the possible bullshit of why he looked like Nelo Angelo.

This direction is good. We don't need to worry about the games and it works as it is with a different take on the story.

This is 100% not taking place in any kind of same continuity as the games, trying to place it in a timeline just won't work.

Yeah I gave that up quickly by EP2 but I just wasn't sure initially so I was just typing as I was watching lol
I don't need it to be and quite like how it isn't with what's turned out of it!

Oh yeah you mentioned about Ruben not being able to be hired, I recall seeing something/somewhere that he was aware and he gave JYB his full support or something

Anyway ahhhh I do hope it gets S2'd

    Final episode spoilers

    Spoiler: show
Using hell/actual demons from hell as an allegory for the Middle East feels like one of those things where someone was trying to make some kind of enlightened political statement and it just ends up coming off as super racist.

Enjoyed the show a lot other than those final 2 or so minutes, the final scene was dope tho

There is a lot of "rowdy rap metal" in this series.

Just finished it and thought it was fun. Even as an original story it still feels like DMC. Hope a season two gets green lit.

This was a really fun watch. I'm all for season 2. Definitely agree the last few minutes is not...great for a lot of reasons, even if i get what the writers were going for.

    Spoiler: show
The "I am the storm" still gets me smiling years after the last DMC installment. DMC5 really had two fantastic songs attached to it.

I forgot about this until I saw the bump. Watched it all in one sitting immediately.

The heavier songs made it feel like a mini trip down 2006~ era youtube with AMVs lol. I liked the softer songs usage. The tracks however is unfamiliar to me, though I may have heard it in an AMV here or there but I never really listened to main stream music; most of my music library is derived from games lol. Hey at least they admit it in Ep7

Vergil's VA works probably just as well as the original
Didn't expect them to squeeze Vergil's chair meme in
They nailed Vergil well, I always enjoyed his character which is usually calm, collected, stylish. I love it when he walks lol
I really enjoyed the temp art shift in ep2 that was cute
Also liked the introduction to Dante's guns as they were largely absent in S1
Flashback showing Dante being a good marksman and him being superior to Vergin was new to me. I don't recall the games ever showing this but it's been a while since I played DMC3
The slight parallels they worked into S2 to make it follow similar steps to DMC3 was quite nice, like the fight in the rain and getting a motorbike, but it's all just minor
EP4 was a rollercoaster. Not only was it something I wanted from a possible DMC6 but the last moments of the ep made me go NO NO NO NOOOOOOO and then I laughed because it's good anyway. I don't care if there's any further implications from it
Rest of it was fun but now we're basically leading into DMC1 next which I hope does not mean Vergil takes a backseat.

Note, one thing I still lament about is currently there's no indicator of DMC6. After the beating DMC5, on the chapter/game selection screen, Vergin joins you in the van as if it's a continuation of the game. Though there are no lines, the faces of the characters speak for themselves. We get a taste of possible lines during the last few chapters of DMC5, but the idea of a DMC6 where the "family" travelling together with all their banter and quips with each other while tackling whatever the main plot might be.

Yea knowing some of the music really adds to the excitment. Like when virgil crossed over and let the bodies hit the floor started up I was like oh shiiits about to get real. That was def a great scene.

I feel like it may be more like Final* season, because the talk of it being a saga/trilogy at least leaves the door open for a new arc/saga, but I may be reading too much into it
