If it's ranch land could be killing pests, but... there's people for that. I know buddies of mine had family with farm land and they'd pay them to kill gophers, moles etc. Mostly because of the destruction they'd cause to gardens or if any horses stepped into a gopher hole and broke an ankle/leg
