2024/25 MLB Offseason Thread: Early parlay and relocation edition

3 trades already, with the biggest being Solar going to the Angels where careers go to die.

Ohtani bet big with the Dodgers and won a ring, and it's official that the A's will have 3 day home games in June and July in Sacramento, so get those heat stroke bets in now.

I mean when you look at how things played out, you have 1 loss by Boone going with a guy who hasn't pitched in over a month versus the hot hand, another loss from not having a quick enough hook on a starter who was visibly dying on the mound, and a loss where 1/3 of the team on the field literally forgot fundamental baseball for a half inning.

Everything else was either equal, or the Yankee's playing better. But bad defense, bad baserunning, and bad coaching cost them.

And the game 1 loss was preceded by the error that got Ohtani to 3rd off a terrible throw from Soto and/or lack of backing up the throw back to the infield that led to the game tying sac fly in the bottom of the 8th

In the "no shit" department, Blake Snell opted out of his contract with the Giants

Thank goodness, our poor owner finally out from under the weight of Verlander and Scherzer.

Why would he opt out? Does he think he's going to get more money?

That's the plan. It was assumed the moment he signed with the Giants that he was only gonna be there one year.

Yankees can void the opt out and keep him, which feels like a no brainer

They did decline their club option on Rizzo however

yeah that price point on cole is fine for his age (and still performing)

rizzo hasn’t been healthy in two years and hasn’t really produced anything offensively at a premium position for hitters. good defensively, good guy, but time to go

No surprise, but Robbie Ray opted in for the last two years of his contract with the Giants

I'm sure he'll give a quality 17 batters worth of appearance in that 2 year stretch

So Cole decided to not opt out and will instead work on an extension with the Yankees.

Wonder if this is a way to throw them a bone to free up money for Soto.

But you don't need to "free up" money in the MLB, especially for the perpetual money makers like the Yankees or Dodgers.

Sadly, this doesn't seem to be the old George Steinbrenner Yankee's with a perpetual blank check, even with the endless money printing.

If I was the Yankee's and had a blank checkbook, I'd be doing everything to re-sign Soto, get Snell, get Pete Alonso (if they can convince him on a 4 year or less deal) for immediate needs.

Honestly, the idea of navigating a Soto/Judge/Alonso/Stanton 2-5 terrifies me.

Now queue up Xno and his undying hatred of Alonso to mock me lol.
