Yeah, "when he talks about rapey, murdery immigrants, he obviously isn't talking about me because I don't do those things!"
I am more or less tasked with being the positive one in the household and I tell you guys it is a hard fucking road to hoe at the moment. There isn't discernable upside to literally anyone from this.
One of the bigger, long-term problems here is that I think this Trump term will actually shrink the government. Republicans have fapped to the idea of shrinking the federal government for decades when really they have just been outsourcing the jobs to consulting firms while they let inflation and the lack of funding adjustments starve the agencies of capacity to do anything but make payroll. A gentle death.
I think this time we may actually see true, deep cuts to many agencies now because ideologues who are unconstrained by reality will be running the federal government. Congress is not going to reduce the agencies' mandated duties because Dems don't want to and Repubs don't care, so we are likely to see way more stuff just fully break. Also, the agencies will be led by people who are either incompetent or actively opposed to their missions.
The federal government definitely has inefficiencies and stupid things it does that should be redesigned. However, people don't seem to recognize that this approach does not actually blow up the system and make it more efficient; it just destaffs an inefficient system. No organization is good at de-growth because de-growth is never the goal. However, a completely unsuccessful strategy is to reduce staffing without pushing any work out of scope.
I am full accelerationist now. Let them destroy it all. I want his supporters to suffer for their choices. Many people who didn't ask for this will suffer too, but they were going to suffer anyways under this regime and so I might as well sip my coffee and watch as those that asked for this get exactly what they asked for.
Who knows, maybe things will be great! They won't, but I don't have to spend 4 years upset Dems lost when I can spend 4 years going "*slurping sounds* mmhmmm"

He's not wrong though. Actions have consequences, reap the whirlwind, watch it burn.

Yeah except he's wrong though. It's a privileged ass take.
I would take it with a bit of sarcasm here, some people are just so tired of decades upon decades of stupid shit politics, by stupid shit politicians, voted in by stupid shit voters that if people are gonna be forced to suffer anyways they can at least enjoy the shaudenfreude of those who made this happen suffer for the consequences of their actions that enables this. Meanwhile the little remaining empathy will be reserved for those that truly fought this and voted against it and absolutely did not deserve it.
Its a cynical mindset of course but fuck its hard not to be when those who couldve stopped this sat at home pontificating over Palestine or couldnt be bothered to vote for Kamala when the other party is a fucking hate cult. Shit and misery being peddled by Regressive politics are a decades long job to fix but people simply dont have the patience or attention to stay in for the long game it seems.
I mean trust me, I am going to have 0 sympathy for anyone who voted for him if they get deported, lose their social security, lose their insurance, etc etc. The leopards are going to be feasting and I will enjoy the schadenfreude.
But I am not going to wish for them to burn it all down because the millions who didn't vote for him will also be affected.
The economy can probably stay the exact same, and trumpers will either say it's better than it was under Biden or blame Dems for it not being better. My cousin already believes gas is starting to go down despite the price remaining the exact same as last week. How do you reason with that? It's like trying to reason with a hyper religious person who believes everything is God's plan.
Two new narratives have popped up over the past 24 hours. The right's propaganda machine is focused on the deaths of a squirrel and a raccoon who were mascots, presumably to detract from the tariff and education discussions. The other is the lefties realizing that Trump has been MIA from the public and social media since election night. The conspiracy of 15-20M votes missing is also a really popular subject amongst the left.
I’ve taken on the role of the positive one at home, and while I don’t mind, it’s tough not being able to talk about what happened without upsetting my wife. Even though we’re doing well in life and, for the most part, this won’t impact us directly, she’s been down the past few days, seeing everything in a negative light. I’m just exhausted from constantly putting on a brave face for her. The other day, I went for a long walk—almost three hours—just to clear my head. Since she works from home, I don’t get much alone time in the house, which makes it hard to fully unwind.
When Trump won last time, I told my wife that I almost wanted them to go all in—to fully reveal how their policies actually impact people. Usually, Democrats prevent the worst of it, but I thought that maybe, if given an unchecked four years, people might truly see the effects. Oklahoma is one of the reddest states, with not a single blue county, and most of my family lives there. I know for a fact that around 95% of them rely on some form of federal assistance and have for most of their lives. A part of me wanted to see that support removed, just to reveal the reality that they’ve often criticized in others.
These are just passing thoughts—I don’t actually want them to happen. I just can’t help but feel that something like this might finally open their eyes. Unfortunately, the pessimist in me says they’d likely still blame Democrats for any loss of support, which would only continue to harm those already struggling.
I’d prefer the coming years to be mild to nothing and for Trump to ineptly limp dick his way through it, but I know they spent a long time making sure they had full control and I’m certain they’re going to use it. So right now, my only comfort is all those stupid fucking rednecks are going to be in for a wake up call when their SS, food stamps, and unemployment benefits get butchered and they’re sitting there holding their dicks wondering why the Mexicans are still here.
Bonus points to any factory worker who voted for him losing their job to overseas when they repeal chips.
So no, I don’t really want it all to burn, but if it’s going too, I’m going to laugh in the face of every Trump supporter the whole way down as they slowly realize they voted in a maniac who’s going to make their lives much much worse.
I feel super bad for him. He's very much on the spectrum. This is probably a very stressful thing for him.
I will say, if the next 4 years are, against all odds, typical neocon status quo, you are NEVER going to be able to use the "this is an existential threat to democracy!!! guys seriously this time!!!" angle again. It already resoundingly failed, but you think it was bad this time? Just wait.
