Okay okay hear me out.
- Market takes a 500~ point dip today.
- Trump blames Canada and Mexico and says "We won't be bullied"
- Further tariffs on the above (and maybe China?)
- Further retaliation from the Can/Mex
- Trump initiates tariffs on European nations and Trump/Putin expect them to bend over and take it
- Countries won't bend over and take it and counter tariff/boycott US goods in turn
- Alienate all European Allies & then the US gubmit allies with N Korea/Russia/Maybe China?
- Axis 2.0 starts
- At this time the economy is going more and more down the tubes, they cite we can't afford these tariff's so they need to stop all entitlement programs (since they now have access to all of this, as of the weekend)
- More civil unrest
- Infighting starts
- Martial Law declared
- Welcome to Gilead may we take your order?
What's our over/under on this? We taking bets?
Obviously I would like to be very wrong about a lot of this. But watching everything unfold doesn't exactly give me a great feeling.
My morning is actually kicking off lit. Heard an MA talking as I walked in. Her daughter moved states to take a federal job....that now doesn't exist. Not as vocal as most MAGA have been, but she doesn't hide her feelings.
I got to say it, which I thought would bring me a little joy until she just replied "I don't know if I'm more sad or embarrassed".
That's not to say that you should feel hopeful. As long as Trump continues to tell white people that they're better than everybody else, they will continue to let him rob them blind. What was that Lyndon Johnson quote? Tell a white man that he's better than the best black man, and he will empty his pockets for you.
The market isn't going down more than 2% today. There's been no showing that the tariffs have any teeth yet. Most asset managers are calling bullshit for now (even if they're proven to be wrong tomorrow).
I think of all the things you've got on your order of operations, the tariff warring is the most likely. There's a few good explainers on the internet but basically Trump's use of hard power threats followed by softer but not quite soft diplomatic overtures (See Colombia, Panama so far) is his standard art of the deal bullshit. He's had two "successes" with it so far, especially with Panama so I would expect that version of "diplomacy" to continue until someone toes the line against him and he reacts poorly.
I can see Trudeau, with nothing to really lose and the Canada populace largely behind him in this particular situation, telling trump to kick rocks.
If by toothless you mean "has the potential to shut down North American auto manufacturing in a week", sure.

And once again, he's not bargaining for anything here. He's asked nothing of Canada and said, explicitly, there was nothing Canada could do to avoid them and no concessions he was looking for.
We would get this far. Alienating the US from G7 would likely finally get the Congress old guard to put the Executive in check. You'll get Turtle, Murkowski, Collins, and Rand fucking Paul to turn on him.
And no way in hell would the US align with BRICS. But then again shit has already been batshit crazy the 2 weeks of this administration.
seinfeld.gifTrump says he spoke with Trudeau this morning.
“Canada doesn’t even allow U.S. Banks to open or do business there. What’s that all about? Many such things, but it’s also a DRUG WAR, and hundreds of thousands of people have died in the U.S. from drugs pouring through the Borders of Mexico and Canada. Just spoke to Justin Trudeau. Will be speaking to him again at 3:00 P.M.,” he wrote on Truth Social.
"Our banks our some of the worst in the world, why can't they operate in Canada?"
If Canada actually did join the US, based of population, Canada would get almost 60 electoral votes.
Republicans would never win another presidential election.
Not to mention U.S would gain millions of liberal voters, GOP would never ever allow this.
Talk of 51st state comes from a malignant narcissist who bullied people all his life, and is trying to bully Canada into trade deal that he can say he won.
There's zero chance we'd be given voting rights, lol. We'd be made a tax-paying non-voting territory like Puerto Rico.
at least someone has some balls

I need a picture of the author of that letter.
Also, deleting emails from people's sent and inbox is wild. Surprised he still had email access to send the 2nd email.
Mexico tariffs reportedly delayed for a month after Trump spoke to Sheinbaum this morning.
