Exactly that. All the successes the Biden Administration has done has been completely overshadowed by 1) Supreme Court decisions and obstructionism and 2) The primaries and the run up to the National Conventions (2 election threads in 2024)

We barely celebrate the wins this year (11 pages in the #46 thread)

Well personally the wins that would impact me the most directly (student loan forgiveness) have completely been rug-pulled and now with Trump’s win I can kiss all that goodbye.

I am of course aware that the rug-pulling was because of the GOP and blame them completely. But what could have been the biggest win for Biden (for me, personally) end up being a big ol’ pile of disappointment.

And about the railroad unions - The law that congress/Biden passed gave the union workers 1 sick day annually. Then 6 months later a huge chunk of rail workers (60%+) negotiated deals to secure 4 additional days of sick time off and use of 3 personal PTO days as sick leave.

Dems seriously need to get over their constant desire to do things the "right" way. You don't win the game playing fair in 2024 and beyond.

Yup, taking the high road doesn't work, never really did but the right has shown they're willing to do w/e it takes. Our whole fucked up redistricting maps are a result of them not "doing it the right way"

A lot of them have. They just have no power because the geriatrics in charge are happy chugging along as things are now. And, like Palpatine, their power is absolute and uncontested within the party.

2016 i think was the biggest signal ever that civility and grace no longer offer the same value they once did. and conversely, people are far more inclined to not just ignore offensiveness, but perhaps even value it because of how it can make you feel. and to me there's been a long term degradation/elevation of those respective messages, which is tragic all by itself, but an ENORMOUS FUCKING PROBLEM for the democratic party, because they won't adjust to it.

and this has been bearing itself out for years in critically, self-damaging ways. dems don't call shit out the way they need to. sinema and manchin are stalling out shit that's helping people? biden and establishment dems needed to go absolutely buck nasty on them on all the circuits, 24/7, instead of treating them like they were on pedestals. i mean when manchin was holding things up and fetterman's out there saying he's a manchin fan instead of dumpstering him, it tells you something is deeply broken. (and yes i realize biden did get out there and say some things, but not nearly enough)

and the downstream effect of all that is that it puts zero pressure on these demons that are fucking up the program which is bad in itself because it lets them feel enabled in doing it again. but perhaps even worse is it makes people feel like dems are just sitting around enabling each other and letting things go, rather than standing up and fighting for you like their hair's on fire.

They put them on a pedestal because they're all old school establishment suits that kowtow to each other. They're friends, they enable each others personal agendas. Politics is their side job.

Fetterman's not, but I think he's just a classic case of somebody with good intentions but maybe not enough critical thinking skills, or maybe too much faith, to see the forest for the trees. I think this might partially be Biden's status these days as well.

yeah, and my past naivete would never have allowed me to see this. so it only stands to reason others are in the same boat. guess the problem is, how do you convince someone that the team they're rooting for can absolutely have idiots running the show? that can and absolutely should be weeded out because they are actively standing in the way of your own best interests?

ironically as i say that i'm thinking "if only we would treat our political parties the same way we treat our sports teams when they have idiotic owners/coaches/managers who are fucking up the program." and while i wish we could have democratic voters be as invested, and as a consequence, as rabidly critical of the party as they would be with their favorite team, i don't see how you can force something that needs to happen organically: especially given politics is a far more complicated (and less enjoyable) thing to understand and get into.

It seems like much of what I’m seeing online is people struggling to come to terms with the outcome, often by spinning narratives that don’t fully add up—things like someone suddenly realizing the impact of tariffs, or people with immigrant backgrounds feeling they’d be safe, or even dramatic stories of children disowning their parents. The person isn’t even in office yet, and let’s face it: if people didn’t do their research before voting, they’re unlikely to start until they feel the consequences directly. It’s reminiscent of stories on the other side about how they wore a Trump hat on a plane and everyone supposedly rallied around them. It’s just exaggerated storytelling.

There's people still in denial that Trump supports project 2025. Just give it some time.

The ones I do buy are the ones where the Trump voter has been cut off by family. The right started complaining about division and "politics shouldn't affect your personal relationships" a little too hard after the election. There's definitely some of those consequences happening.

What we've learned to be honest is that the Average American wont get off their ass to vote for their best interests unless they're made to suffer. That and they're thick as fuck in too many places. It's stupid I know but if the same number of people had got off their asses to vote like when Trump fucked up in 2020 he wouldn't have gotten back in. They blame Dems for the economy when in fact Joe and the Dems did make change to help people and bring inflation under control. People just thought prices higher = Joe Bad when they dont understand that prices generally never go down once they go up it's wages that go up to cancel out the price rises instead. The only way the Dem's will have a chance to reverse this shit is if the Republicans fuck up so badly at some point in the next 4 years that it triggers a democratic surge that reverses things in THEIR favour and are given an opportunity to undo decades of fuckery. I doubt that America will outright walk strait into Autocracy, sure Trump and his malicious fucks will cause alot of damage but as some pointed out Repubicans fall it when it comes to elections then when they realise they hate EACH OTHER they turn on one another and spend most of the time fucking fighting themselves. That gives dems a chance to organise because despite their crappy luck at elections when they do get in they get shit done because they talk to each other and fucking organise a plan. If Joe wants to do something right he needs to make changes that make sure that Repubicans will not be able to fuck with things easily for the next few years.

hmm, so you're telling me cowboys fans are big time apologists, then? i did not know.

interestingly enough if you think about it, it is quite the phenomenon that certain fanbases are mega critical, depending on the region, i.e. philadelphia fans known as being rather unforgiving. and this is just kinda hand-wavey on my part, but if you look at all the coalitions under the dem umbrella, it feels like they follow a similar theme in how they respond, right? if you're progressive, you're seeing all the things you hate and you call it out. if you're mega-libbed up, it's a lot harder to see them do wrong, and call them out for it.

and this group-think is something people really pick up very quickly from each other, once someone new enters any kind of like-minded community, not just because you are what you eat (information-wise), but also because jumping on the train everyone else is on, while becoming incrementally louder within that group is the easiest way to build one's own value and cachet.

unfortunately, a group think that is built upon letting things slide is not the way things get better.
