The two term democratic governor of fucking Kentucky even penned an op-ed in the NYT saying that Democrats don't have to abandon trans kids to win. The thing I love about Beshear is that he figured out that you can reach across the aisle and engage Republicans without abandoning your progressive principals. He won in Kentucky while running on abortion rights with a ton of pro-choice TV ads. Won 2nd term, by 5 points, after vetoing anti-trans legislation. And he did that by defending his positions, going to the poorest parts of the state and asking what they need, and working with McConnell and Comer to bring a ton of necessary jobs and funding to the state.

Anyway, the issue isn't that Democrats engage in identity politics, it's that they run from it. Republicans get to hammer away at Democrats and Dems are too scared to even give the bare minimum of defense.
