I love that Musk can constantly fail upwards. People cite him as the reason Tesla and SpaceX made it big....Tesla was a company he took over and forced the other people out of and then took credit for everything they did and then got all the tax dollars to build up his charging network and not allow anyone else use of it for years; SpaceX only exists because of government subsidies and his own decisions at the company constantly were causing them to fall behind on their targeted goals.

Dude literally went into a Sacramento data center and started pulling plugs for Twitter servers and going "Look, the website still works. This is obviously extra shit we don't need!" and asked for people to print code out so he could review it....before then shredding all the code because it was an FTC violation to have the code in printable format that could be leaked.

Even the 2 writers give him more kudos then the dude fucking deserves. Born into wealth and constantly just been failing upwards again and again because we live in a fantasy world where you can make a make believe company, promise that said company will give us neural chips that cure cancer, stock goes up and then you're never held accountable.

While I agree he's made Twitter measurably worse, neither Tesla nor SpaceX would exist as we know them without him.

If you want to argue "he's just a rich guy who made successful risky bets with his capital, not an engineering genius" fine, but at worst he's...the most successful investor in human history.

Mike Johnson is like yeaaah don't release the ethics investigation on Gaetz.

Reckon I'd be happy enough if the Senate were allowed to see it.

i thought this was a good listen, and helped me to contextualize some of my own thoughts that had been floating around for a good while: america continues to polarize in a way that it pits intellectuals vs anti-intellectuals. it's a classism thing and it's the working class that's been abandoned. but who's there (pretending) to sing their song? trump.

i don't agree with all that he says here (posing john fetterman as a potential, presidential candidate in 2028 i think is psychotic), but at least he goes out of his way to admit that now is the time to start pushing ideas that are otherwise uncomfortable to someone like himself, whom he deems moderate. i don't know if UBI could ever be a thing in america, or some type of national program for trade-school training, but the idea of re-prioritizing the working class (as well as not engaging in politics and policies that make them feel like they are less than) is the way to get them back.

He won in Kentucky while running on abortion rights with a ton of pro-choice TV ads. Won 2nd term, by 5 points, after vetoing anti-trans legislation. And he did that by defending his positions, going to the poorest parts of the state and asking what they need, and working with McConnell and Comer to bring a ton of necessary jobs and funding to the state.

Anyway, the issue isn't that Democrats engage in identity politics, it's that they run from it. Republicans get to hammer away at Democrats and Dems are too scared to even give the bare minimum of defense.
yeah, i think clearly this is the way to go. people like progressive policies. they want abortion rights, they support an arms embargo in gaza, they want shit that makes life easier for them and their kids. they want to live lives where they can feel like elected officials aren't there to take advantage of them, or treat them like they don't matter. dem party leaders, unfortunately, seem to look at a guy like shapiro and go "lOoK hOw ModERaTe hE iS, thIS iS HOw wE WiN!!" and COMPLETELY ignore an approach that involves the simplest of messages: trying to understand what matters to someone who's in need.

Musk tossed some $$ at Tesla but the actual founders were the ones that got everything setup and envisioned a lot of it, he just took credit for everything and the only reason it's worth so damn much is because it's marketed as a "tech" company instead of an auto-manufacturer and people just valued it at crazy high levels and still do. SpaceX was him hiring on a bunch of people who actually knew what they were doing and then taking credit, while behind the scenes he was pitching ideas people thought were fucking insane and stupid.

I don't think his investments were that risky either to be honest, EV's were on the horizon and I will give him kudos to seeing that coming and tossing some money he got from paypal (which he got into after Daddy gave him some $$ to get it into tech in the 1st place). It also reaped a ton of benefits from govt subsidies much like SpaceX, if it wasn't for the gov't subsidies both Tesla and SpaceX would have tanked and gone under so he's lucky as fuck and credit where credit is due, was able to manipulate the system.

He's successful but a lot of that is due to sheer luck and not a ton of it due to his own actual endeavours beyond just promising the world and people not seeming to care it's never delivered. He's the JJ Abrams version of a CEO

just finished watching this. i feel like this is the best combination of factors i've heard so far to explain how things happened the way they did, and how they've been shifting for quite some time. ironically i'd kinda felt some of these things were a thing, but had no way to confirm them till i heard her speak.

The Fed was strangling NASA, SpaceX not existing is a bad thing.

NASA suffers from too many contractors and too many of them being management. My current company doesn't even know how to pay engineers (IT/Cybersec/Aerospace) because they have so many damn managers they don't know technical jobs at all. My base has a drip feed of talent at least from Capitol Tech Uni nearby thankfully. I have so many damn meetings nowadays with nothing actually getting done but at least we have some people spearheading the schedule this space telescope and keeping it on track

Can't not give him credit for everything, but also cyber truck. Dude is clearly on the decline, even if he started off with some bangers.

show again that CNN video from like 1999 of Musk getting his McLaren delivered; he was always kinda a misguided dipshit despite being so successful and earnest in other ways. it reached new levels when those thai kids got trapped in the cave, and here we are, a long way from that already

I mean the supercharger network is great, the vehicles themselves are shit though. SpaceX was needed though since NASA was blowing $$ on stupid shit

SpaceX I'll give you but acting as if nobody else would've figured out EVs if Tesla wasn't around is asinine.

Tesla is still over half of US EV sales. Nobody else has "figured it out" at anything resembling scale in America.

The dumbass Cybertruck was the 3rd best selling EV in America in Q3 (behind the Y and 3)

Other automakers can't even outsell his worst vehicle by far, it's fuckin embarrassing
