It's not every doctor. But medical just like everything else is profit driven. Thats why insurance always denies claims. It's why you can't get generic cheaper drugs. You know this, I'm certain.

Every decision is based on profit first, and human life second. To the extent that the human life isn't ended, there's no continuing profit in corpses.

Why do they ask you for your insurance, before they even ask why you're there. They don't even mask it. Because first and foremost it's a business.

P.S. Insurance is not the "medical industrial complex" it's a fucking sham of a wizard behind a curtain telling the people who want you to get better that they have to do something different or they won't get paid and you won't be able to afford it.

    They're totally unnecessary.

Now I get it, for-profit health systems suck, but they're a symptom of waste that literally business people without medical knowledge create in order to line their pockets.

Even then, to say they don't want you to get better is just a ridiculous notion based on nothing but anecdotal frustration. It's literally no doctor.

If you want to make the argument that some doctors are money driven and do a shitty job, sure, make that argument. Even then, their primary motivation isn't you never getting better it's gross ignorance about how to properly manage your care.

If fat people weren't worth their weight in gold they'd be manufacturing semiglutides at breakneck speed.

Then mcdonalds goes out of business. Agricultural factory farms lose money. Coca-Cola goes bankrupt. Everything is propped up on our overall unhealthy "choices". You know how many hospitals would have to close due to lost revenue if half of Americans stopped having fat related illness.

I mean I do think our medical industry doesn't care about people, now to be really clear, I don't mean the doctors and in general those who treat you or the forward facing jobs... but like specifically insurance and drug companies. I mean Drug companies we know for sure don't give a shit, I mean Biden himself finally limited the price of life-saving drugs because these drug companies, and only really in America, gouge the shit out of prices because they can thanks to the middle man that is profit-first insurance companies. Some other countries suffer price gouging but America was far and away the worst for at least insulin.

Now I don't buy the conspiracy of "suppressing cures because treating long-term illness is more profitable", but at the same time if some report came out and provided evidence of such, I wouldn't be shocked.

Edit: Also Mcdonalds and Coke exist in healthier, by comparison, societies like Japan and China, while I know America is a huge industry for them, I think thats a bit tinfoil of a stance to take. If anything, they would adapt to the new market.

Hospitals treat more than just fat people lol

They don't "churn out Ozempic at breakneck speeds" because it does nothing to discourage the real problem - the lifestyle encouraged by every other industry.

It's not a matter of whether people want patients to stay sick. The people you have an issue with are not medical personnel and you should direct your frustration at them.

You want to keep the tinfoil on? I'm definitely the guy to talk to.

One time some group lobbied Congress to reclassify cancer as a, "livable illness" and we should stop trying to find a cure.

This was a long time ago so you will just have to take my word for it.

"medical industrial complex" benefits from it, is all I'm saying. They don't need to do anything because they benefit from every other industry. Their goals are aligned.

It's all one big cycle. More chemicals in the food to make them cheaper. More Sugar in the food to cover it up. More unhealthy people. Crave more food.

No one has a reason to change any of it. They all profit from it. That includes all the sectors and businesses adjacent and direct. It's another part of the reason the push for work from home got crushed. You don't drive by starbucks on your way to work if you work from home.

Nothing is fixed cause there's profit in leaving it fucked up. House of cards.

It's a little hard to believe that the profit motive negatively affects care, but only when insurance companies do it. It isn't like doctors (and dentists) doing unnecessary procedures so they can run up the bill is a novel concept in 2024.

If you were to bucket their drugs into prevention, cure, treatment, drug companies also pump out almost pure treatment. Biology is hard, so that may be a byproduct of how complicated we are as a system and I'm not saying big pharma is sitting on cures for diabetes or w/e, but I am saying that their business case for proving that semiglutide prevents 95% of cases of diabetes in at-risk patients didn't make sense to fund until a bunch of people were already taking it for weight loss and the data was almost free to collect. Also, these companies can be as ethical as they want, but the market does the math if they cannibalize one market by solving a problem they were treating.

I know a lot of my dad's issues were self-imposed, but there's a part of me that thinks he might be alive right now if the ER trip we made a little under a month back didn't just culminate in them being all, "Nothing to see here!" and sending him off, as after his last fall, we took him to a different hospital in the area and they were pretty pissed about that fact. I know a lot of doctors and such are constrained by insurance and are definitely in it for the right reason, but to sort of hammer home the indifference we experienced, we'd asked one of the ER nurses huddled in a group just chatting if he could have some water before we left and they all just looked at us like we were fucking insane to have the audacity. Note, this same hospital has also had all drinking fountains blocked off since covid, so in the politest sense it's them forcing you to buy bottled water for $3 from the vending machines half a football field down the halls.

Care was pretty night and day at the second place. I didn't sit on the second ER admittance since they took him in the ambulance and my mom went with. I viewed the fact they were choosing to admit him as a good sign that FINALLY we were going to get some care that had needed done for a while now. Despite his stubbornness and escalating mental decline, they tried. Would this attention 9-10 days sooner made much of a difference? I don't know. There was talk of dialysis early on, but they mainly worked on flushing him out for the week that followed. We're not entirely sure what happened early Saturday morning, but he simply went non-responsive overnight and what sounded like myriad organ failure followed. All I knew when we got the 7am call was this was probably the beginning of the end.

It sucks and we've got a long day ahead of us here, but even before the first ER visit, we'd basically been on a 3 week wait from his PCP to get the ball rolling on potential hospice care. Shit just sucks here. I know once the dust settles, I'm finally going to get my shoulder looked at since I think I tore a tendon in my rhomboid a few years back. Sadly, no insurance, so what may amount to a combo of an MRI, surgery, and likely PT is gonna fuck me on top of the $200 to an urgent care just to get the referral. Main reason this was put off was me going out of commission for probably 3-6 months just wasn't an option since I was doing all the heavy lifting here, figuratively and literally. I'd even be okay with a wait if we did have a universal option, as I've fucking endured it this long, but naaaaah. 'Murica.

It's not because people just want you to be sick.

that sounds a little like telling us how low inflation is this year. a conspiracy will often land better

the healthcare system in the US is flawed, to understate it. people don't feel well cared for in many cases, and telling them welp it shouldn't have happened like that (but it did) isn't going redeem the grievance

I think the phrasing people are looking for is, "there are often vested interests in providing medical services for profit which negatively impact health outcomes that could be handled differently but aren't."

In light of the insanity that have been his nominations, I began wondering who some of the surprises were that turned out to be really fucking good at their job from his first stint in office.

    Jerome Powell came to mind.
