It's quite literally 100% terminally online people, and they keep those views online. Even the couple of bigots I see on social media that I have the displeasure of knowing irl don't repeat it in public.

I work at a school in a redder area of CA. Since it is CA, we have teachers with pride flags. I have had parents meet with me in person to have the flags removed. Thankfully, we have Ed code that actually specifies we teach about them and that we must be inclusive. So I just cite that code anytime they complain.

Last week I had one and it felt almost like a cartoon. Shit you not I had a Russian women who “teaches dance and has no problem with gay people,” but also it’s, “sad kids have to see that and confuse them as there are only two genders.”

I just kept repeating the law. And she told me she was glad now Trump was president as he will, “fix all that.”


Which is actually one thing I don’t think Trump will do anything, because the Ed code is CA, and he’s all for passing the bucks to the states so he doesn’t have to deal with it.

You and I do not see this the same way. As I said about 20 posts ago, some of you are looking at this in a vacuum. I am not. I think this type of capitulation harms the group as a whole. I understand you don't see that. I do, however.

Theres no good outcome for her. She gets coalraked and loses her next election and accomplishes nothing. They strip her of all committee seats. They sideline her for her entire term and that's it.

For a publicity stunt that the other side ran and she fell for. And no one is going to help her out cause they'll do the same thing to them.

She was elected by people who knew she was trans, probably by a good chunk of trans people and families of trans people. If she comes out and says "This is bullshit and a waste of a time, i'm a human just like the rest of you" I don't see how that fucks her in the end? Even if it does she stood up for her fucking beliefs. They'll strip her of shit regardless if she fights back or not, for fuck sake can we stop pretending like playing the game "fair" means that the right won't just fuck you over in another way? A text to my transgender son because a teacher complained. I was contacted by his principal and counselor. The principal tried to "both sides" me. My son was volunteering his time to teach kids theater and put on a play at an elementary school.

Yeah, people, parents, teachers, principals, awful people all around. I probably have one of these conversations a couple times a month, and that's outside of the less serious "kill yourself" comments he gets lobbed at him 5 times a day.

For that matter, were blacks "actually harmed" by drinking from the water fountain on the other side of the hall?

I guess I'm saying I don't find this to be convincing because symbolic harm is still harm. But I think you could make the argument that marginalizing her is actually harmful. I don't know her mental health nor do you. Regardless, accomodation is not equality.

Running a public campaign as a trans person and winning on a populist platform, then getting into office and immediately signaling that you're not going to let ragebait tactics deter you from doing everything that you can to work on accomplishing what you campaigned on is doing more for trans rights than any of you will ever fucking do.
