My wife and I have been saving up a lot and have a significant amount in the bank right now. Liquid but in an HYSA earning 5% and I am hoping that we can actually take advantage of the crash this time around. Heres hoping that my wife can get get done with school and start working again with enough time to bump our numbers before teh market goes crazy.

So if they put tariffs on Mexico, it may bring some manufacturing jobs back to the states because the cost of those goods would go up 25%, but if they also put tariffs on China then the costs to import the raw materials will go up 25%...

People assemble Chinese parts in Mexico and ship the finished or near finished product to the US to use NAFTA's replacement to dodge tariffs and Mexican labor to lower costs, but if you tariff both the finished product and the parts they are combining it doesn't give any reason to rehome the process to the US. They may as well still benefit from the lower labor costs in Mexico.

Anyway, it could be a bargaining tactic to get ??? from Mexico, where we already have borderline exploitatively good trade agreements or China, but day 1 implies he is doing foreign policy before taking office, which is illegal. Could still be the answer, but I think the more likely option is that he is an idiot who has surrounded himself by idiots.
