I almost feel sorry for Musk. With all the nonsense he spouts on topics clearly outside his expertise, it’s evident he craves validation and desperately wants people to like him. The recent drama surrounding PoE2/Diablo highlights how he’s lived his life for the past two decades—buying anything and everything in the hope that it succeeds, slapping his name on it, and presenting himself as some kind of misunderstood genius.
I’ll admit, I fell for it at first when he spoke about cars and rockets, simply because I didn’t know enough to see through the façade. But the first time I heard him discuss engineering stacks and basic programming, it was painfully obvious—he reminded me of every fresh-out-of-college programmer who thinks they’re ready to lead a team and design multi-layer systems.
He tries so hard to be noticed and, in his mind, appear “cool,” but it just comes off as desperate. He’s starting to remind me of Trump in a way. Trump could almost be funny if he weren’t in such a position of power, and Musk might be relatable if he didn’t wield such influence.
I truly hope he finds something to fill that void because if he doesn’t, it’s only going to hurt us all in the long run.
