I'm ok with Air Force One having this standard of quality control.
i wonder how far down this list we have to go for my head-in-the-sand "well we live in california so we're not affected" friends and family to start going "wait, what???"
OPM is sending out emails informing federal employees they have 10 days to snitch on colleagues that may peripherally work on DEIA shit or face retribution.

Got the same e-mail from the new head of DHS
The Heritage Foundation is doing exactly what they said they would do. Creating a Nationalist autocracy for white rich Christians.

I'm not going to say bad actors didn't exist before 2010, but they were generally secluded to the bowels of the internet like 4chan, somethingawful, kiwifarms, etc.. Essentially most knew they were echo chambers where acting their true selves out in reality would get them decked or worse.
However, the far-right is known to target and butter up the isolated and disenfranchised. Gaming has more than its share of lonely nerds within reach who just want friends, to feel wanted, and to belong. Shit can seem innocuous enough at first, but then you start getting the little tests like seeing how much racism, misogyny, and various other negative -isms the affected are willing to tolerate to maintain their status within their new group. Repetition and exposure does its thing to the point where the old saying of "Once you let a nazi in your bar, it becomes a nazi bar..." plays out in the digital landscape. Doesn't matter if it's forums, twitter, reddit, discord, or whatever. The shit was allowed to fester and eventually faces bubbled out of the ooze like Tate, Asmongold, LibsOfTikTok, and other conservative talking heads. Basically, no amount of millenial apathy or dumbass memes could exceed the reach of newer platforms and companies that turn a blind eye to the behaviors of their customers because money is more important than fostering a healthy and safe community beyond token lip service. The ability for people to be targeted by mass automated reports is testament to the zero fucks given.
The left has never really had equivalents to Limbaugh, Jones, Rogan, or other modern contemporaries. I can't bring myself to say it's because we're divided or some kind of assumed minority. Part of it has always been, "Jesus christ these fuckers are stupid..." and just left it at that hoping others felt similarly. Yet when you go deeper and see a lot of media is headed by conservative interests, the pieces start falling into place for deliberate long-term social programming where the adults in Gen Z lives either turn a blind eye or fundamentally agree with the bullshit because they've passed it down or don't find it worth correcting. Putting aside the reality that a lot of parents shouldn't even have kids, it's not like our economy in recent decades has facilitated a solid at home presence when both parents have to work multiple jobs and/or wonky hours. People like John Stewart or Seth Meyers cracking jokes for 15-20 minutes is also nowhere near the same amount of bile their opposites are shitting out daily for hours on end in greater numbers with a social media machine signal boosting it beyond rational reach.
For as much as conservatives love to bitch about politics ruining their entertainment, this problem is only highlighted when it's "woke" or whatever. Their infestation has been prolonged and prolific within the venues younger generations are exposed to daily and we can't really forget that high school just tends to be lots of little tribes at war with one another or juggling uneasy alliances. Teachers are on record citing individuals like Tate as instigators of disobedience and misinformation. That rabbit hole is but a youtube search away with an algorithm that will happily shovel similar. Frankly, it's a big part of why their old claims about twitter were bullshit when now it's very obvious nazi leader has skewed the platform to his own political and financial ends. Even gaming has a slew of dumbasses obsessed with DEI, ignorant of the realities of capitalism fucking their hobby as shareholder profits take priority over the art form.
So, I pretty much stand behind what I said. Anyone who's paid attention the various media they're exposed to daily will not be shocked to find a culture of intentionally cultivated troglodytes that embrace their anti-intellectual views and discriminatory biases as strengths in the guise of manliness and patriotism. All that matters is the next conquest even if their actions leave nothing but ruin behind. Empathy is something they've been taught to discard as weakness.
Just curious. What's it like at your guys' workplace? Are people talking about it at all? And what are their thoughts?
I work in a rental subsidy program. Some people are talking about it. Others are acting like everything is fine.
It's only a matter of time before HUD is gutted and we're affected. A NFL player is no more qualified to run that agency than a brain surgeon.
I nor any of my direct coworkers discuss politics other than occasional jokes at the low hanging fruit
i had my classroom observation about a week after the election. my observer (who is the head of the english department) and i talked about it briefly.
i shrugged it off and said “well, nj is a blue state, so im sure most of the incoming stupidity won’t affect us” to which she replied “yeah but this is a red county, so who knows” and that’s all ive heard about it so far. we got an email yesterday that said to remember we are an institution that embraces diversity and inclusion though, so maybe we will get yelled at soon
I WFH and stay away from politics with people at work except for my one close friend
My coworkers are huge trumpers. They're all in on his bullshit. I'm staying sane by waiting for my 'this is what you voted for' moment.
Liberal California here - My work is full of liberals or apolitical/"don't talk about it, it's depressing." I think I'm the most vocal one and I don't talk much about it since we're so focused on getting work done. Corporate is still maintaining its DEI initiatives.
Meanwhile my friend is super depressed at her workplace that she believes she's would get abducted by the secret fascist police because she is the only liberal in her small office job. I should goad her into wearing Pride stuff but she is delusional enough to think she would get fired or abducted.
for my municipal job, i know my immediate boss is liberal, but i assume everyone else is full trump and do not talk politics with anyone.
think i told the story in spam that one of the DPW grunts bought a bunch of domain names in regards to the upcoming 250th celebration before the election (close to 8k worth) because he thinks he can sell them to the trump administration, and the best i could tell him was “good luck with that”
also friendly reminder trump will preside over the upcoming 250th anniversary and it will be quite possibly the largest political shitshow ever
Co-workers don't do much political talk, but I also purposely don't really talk to anyone unless I have to. Though, I imagine a good chunk are probably Trumpers only because they are religious conservative types and they get major ick from anything lbgt related. I only really get into it with certain family members cause their stupidity is very high, and they constantly fall for misinformation and scams even outside of politics.
