America has beaten the Nazis, but the Iron Front definitely did not. I'm not sure if it makes a difference that the Americans are the Nazis now...

I read up a bit ago on the American Iron Front, and sort of got the feeling that they'd be infiltrated by tankies in no time.

Nephew was down yesterday and started babbling about how we were gonna make Canada the 51st state, that they want it, and the tariffs are a good thing. Pretty much reminded him the world thinks were a laughing stock, there's no way in hell they'd do that, and of course there's no benefit to the tariffs other than just making us pay more for everything they bring down. Then just walked out the door to run an errand I was going to do anyway.

I've known he's a Trumper since my oldest sister basically indoctrinated them into the GOP cult of redneck stupid. The kid's never been civil with me even when I was going out of my way to do things for him. He's already made a litany of stupid life choices with a divorce under his belt and way too many kids. I fear the groundwork is already there for his kids to repeat his mistakes, but he can enjoy the consequences of his vote and buying into this nationalist bullshit.

My two oldest are currently 17 and 15, so they don't really have a good grasp on how absolutely fucking bonkers his first term was.

I said "y'all, it's been like 4 fucking days. We have so many hundreds more to go. We haven't even gotten to the fun shit like locking young children in non-temperature-controlled.cages".

Total disbelief lol. They have no idea. I think they're comfortable enough to not get too worried because dad will ship them across the country to california before he'd let anything happen to them.

I've no fucking idea who they are, it's the bit in the middle that matters.
I can crop it if you like.

As a Canadain, I know dam well if Tarriffs happen to Canada. The cost of living in the US will skyrocket.

The US has exhausted most of it's resources. So it has to import almost everything. Hence why US is so susceptible to inflation spikes. Has nothing to do with the Biden Administration.

The US has to import Oil. Canada has a massive oil reserve in Alberta. The US buys 40% of it's Oil from Canada. If Trump puts a 25% Tarriff on Canada. Expect the price of Gas to go up 30 cents a gallon overnight.

Also Canada might be pissed, so they might ban Oil to the US to retaliate the Tarriffs. Now the US will have a massive crisis.

I have a mix of both here (WA), though most are not very vocal about it.

My boss is a Trump supporter, but doesn't bring it up much (at least in front of me). I'll mention our governor to her sometimes as a joke since she hates him, but that's about the extent with her. When DeSantis was campaigning, I did ask her which of the two she supported at the time (DeSantis).

I have a handful that I know are liberal. I've mentioned one before, but there are some others I'll talk politics with, mainly in the "can you believe this shit?" aspect.

There are other coworkers I don't know which way they lean and I won't ask or try to find out unless they make it obvious. Many of them I also don't see due to my schedule.

On the more interesting/worrying side of things, from what little I know, I think we have at least 1-2 employees at risk of deportation. I'm also fairly sure one of them might be trying to get me to marry them based on a conversation with them recently as well as thinking about our interactions when she first started here. She had mentioned a sister/friend (can't remember) got a green card through marriage while we were talking about her being worried about being deported.

The US produces more oil than it consumes, and exports more than it imports.

The US buys crude from overseas. Refines it, and then exports it. It doesn't produce enough crude oil.

Yep. I was gonna say our domestic plays produce more natural gas than we need/use and not enough oil to meet our demand.

More like it's cheaper to refine and import OPEC oil than refine American crude. The oil refiners don't want to put a down payment into upgrades to handle American crude oil nor do they want to deal with the regulatory hurdles.

Why do you think we don't produce it?

I mean, I don't want to produce it either though. I'd prefer those environmental accidents happen in other nations, not our own. I just want to make enough to support us short term incase of international incidents, but I'd prefer it be done overseas

We have much more refinery capacity than Canada does, so we make money by buying and refining Canadian oil as well. 10 years ago we were a net importer, but not anymore.
