You have zero reason to be confident this would have happened. None of us know what would have happened because he escaped sentencing for his conviction. He didn't get to escape appeals for his Jean Carrol case, and is on the hook for being liable for sexual assault. He definitely didn't wiggle his way out of that and people like to pretend that never happened because then they can say things like you did and feel confident about it.

His fine in the Carrol case is almost 100 million between the two juries. From reading the stories, I actually don't know if the original 83 million got reduced to 5 million later or if they are both separate cases. I honestly haven't looked into it enough. Small beans for Mr. Trump Coin himself, but punishment nonetheless. He has evaded additional assumed fines from different cases because of his election. But that's not even the point of the story.

What I'm saying is people are pretending he wouldn't have faced those fines anyways even though he has already in other cases. Thats just divorced from reality.

Have you? He just lost his appeal in the sexual assault case against Carrol. He's a bona fide sexual assaulter who lost on appeals. He's lost court cases before. He's settled and paid out cash before. He isn't literally immune from ANY repercussions, even if it's a pain in the ass to make them stick.

On the topic of discussing downplaying or normalizing, Jon Stewart is catching some heat from his viewers for this show

I watched this a few days ago, and if I recall correctly, his main point was that we shouldn't label everything Trump does as being on the 100% level of Hitler. That way, we have room for genuine outrage when he crosses a serious line.

Let the courts hold him accountable when necessary, and save the outrage for when things truly take a dangerous turn. Otherwise, it’ll be like last time—where constant alarmism lost its impact, possibly contributing to his re-election. People will dismiss concerns by saying, "You claimed he’d destroy democracy before, and it didn’t happen."
