Rock was on McAfee's show today and amusingly 100% confirmed a report from Meltzer like 2 months ago which the internet shitted all over when it first came out.
Synopsis
- The Rock says he could've been involved in the Wrestlemania 41 finish, but instead wanted the spotlight to be on John Cena and Number 17
- The Rock says that TKO CEO, Ari Emanuel called him for help because ticket sales for Elimination Chamber were slow, and wanted something must-see.
- He wants Cody to eventually turn heel because of "how smart he is". He pitched Cody selling his soul and (according to Rock lol) Triple H decided to go with Cena instead
- The Rock understand that when people saw Travis Scott that they thought he was also coming out. He said he would have adjusted or finessed things a little more
- The Rock says he called Cody and John Cena after Elimination Chamber that "I think the Final Boss' work is done" (To be interpreted...)
- He "liked the finish", but he "would have gotten there differently".
- He was watching WrestleMania at home
Not sure I care particularly much on WHO to blame, just so long as everyone is in agreement that night 2 main event was kinda flat, and the Cena heel turn has been kinda dull and boring this entire time.
It puts into context Triple Hs comments just prior to mania, saying to basically just watch and enjoy the show, apparently cause he knew full well their creative decisions leading up to this have been whack. Even the Randy Orton surprise after Cena's celebration on RAW was kinda dumb. Completely out of nowhere. If they want to pivot to him that's fine, but a better and more fun plot was teased and not delivered. Sucks to suck

We went from selling souls to corporate to hey that dude is RKOing again and like, it makes sense thematically but the plot seemed a lot more interesting before mania.

Knowing that the original plan was to have the turn happen at Mania makes the build kind of sucking make more sense. They weren't originally planning on having to drag the story out to that point, especially if the Rock wasn't going to be involved outside of the one singular appearance to pop some ticket sales.
We got the fun moment of Cena shitting on that one random kid in the audience, but this would have worked a lot better if the turn was happening during the main event. Could have had assorted random hints of Cena being desperate enough to do anything to win (like in the finish of the Elimination Chamber match), but no one actually believing it because he's fucking John Cena.
And obviously just completely remove Travis Scott from the equation
Unpopular opinion, but if you absolutely have to have a theme song for the show made by an artist, fein is pretty great. He doesn't actually need to show up to the event tho like wtf lol
