Refs would have to rule he "gave himself up" to blow it dead, since he wasn't touched. In college he would have been down.

But IMO he kneeled to throw off the defense, who assumed it would be blown dead but the refs weren't homering for the Lions

Someone explain what I am missing. There was like 30 seconds left, tie game, the lions have the ball on like the 21 on 4th down…

And Dan Campbell decides to run a play instead of kicking a field goal??

Was the kicker dead or something???? I’m at a loss. Successful or not, this has to be among the dumbest things I’ve ever witnessed in the NFL.

The choice was to go for it on 4th down, run out clock, kick an easy FG to win (what happened), or kick an easy FG and give Jordan Love around 45 seconds to get in FG range.

I didn't hate the call because I'm pretty sure most everyone thought that the lions were trying to draw them offsides. I was surprised they actually snapped it. I think taking all the context into account, it was a ballsy call, but not outright stupid.

I wouldn’t call it one of the dumbest ever. Lions were running a third string defense with guys who dressed for the first time the day before. Love was making all kinds of ridiculous back foot throws the second half.

This game was a toss up. Failure to convert would have given Love more than enough time to march into field goal range. It was a calculated risk that could have easily gone wrong like it did in the NFC game.
