the extremely online Chinese nationalist contingent is throwing a bitchfit over Wukong not winning, some are downvoting BG3 because they felt Sven's speech was criticizing them, the Wukong CEO came out saying the game's success was the inevitable result of Chinese culture and he didn't understand what the criteria was for game of the year, the sub is actively having a meltdown.

it's kinda funny cuz Wukong has the worst MC score of any game of the year nominee ever. got overvalued if anything because of its financial success and the twin toxic pillars of Chinese nationalists + anti-woke gamers propping it up. shame because beneath all the bullshit it is a solid game.

Wukong seems fun but never quite GOTY material to me

I'd probably have given it to all of the other contenders before Wukong, even Shadow of the Erdtree and I already made clear how I feel about a DLC being there lol

It's definitely a rare case of something good being made in the AAA ecosystem but I still can't get over the cynicism in that it's a game about a Sony robot flying around space in a magic PS5.

The vote weighting is what I have a problem with. 90% Panel and 10% user votes. I can understand weighing in favor of a panel (50-60 max), but only 10% for all users is just ridiculous. It means that the user vote doesn't count at all and is purely performative.
