I also second earlier comments wrt Zelda ToTK, the game looks better and runs much better(no nonsense 60 fps). Would be tempted to re-play, but already got around 200 hours on it.

May not be everyone’s cup of tea but Fast Fusion is one of the best S2 launch titles. I was very disappointed with Wipeout studio getting wiped out by Sony, but looks like this will step up the game to cover the space left by them.
A steal for only $15, also a great visual demonstration of S2 capabilities.
Switch 2 is definitely the way Scarlet/Violet should be played, game looks great and runs just as well.
However, one thing that probably needs to be pointed out is that the Switch 2, unless you can adjust settings etc. to help with it, is probably much less of a mobile option than the original one was. Should probably check closely, I don't think I'm getting much more than three hours of playtime out of it. When connecting it to my PC via USB to keep it charging while I am playing, I cannot even keep it running infinitely, it's burning through its power faster than it can recharge, probably need to hook it up directly to a power outlet for that to work.
I have zero intention of using it while traveling etc. since I only use it from home, but probably something to keep in mind.
OG Switch also had a similar, perhaps even lower battery capacity which was improved by more than 60% with a quietly released upgraded model (HAC-001(-01). Most Switches in circulation are of the newer model.
Would suck to be an early adopter if they pull the same again.
You can always tweak brightness too. I noticed we got an easy 4 hours on Wi-Fi without needing to charge. Sound/brightness can also kill battery life.
Game you're playing is probably going to impact it. I'm pretty sure Cyberpunk is going to destroy batteries due to how demanding it is

I've heard Mario Kart is only getting like 2 hours as well.
Battery life on it just sucks
Honestly I don’t mind somewhat lower battery life as long as the device is strong enough to run modern games. I will mostly use it at hotels during layovers with easy access to power.
I usually play in long haul flights flying as a passenger and almost all seats have outlets nowadays. If they don’t, nothing a 10k mah battery pack cannot solve.
Belkin also has a charging case which, works as a case and a charging dock.
And this shit ain't new. I remember my friend's Game Gear running Sonic back in the early 90's and that shit had about an hour of life in it. Big horsepower = low battery life. It was one of the (many) benefits of the Game Boy having such limited graphics: that shit lasted quite a long time. A godsend on road trips back then.
Still, I'd rather have the Switch like this. You play some Virtual Console titles and it'll probably last a good 6-7 hours.
Good lord I remember how many batteries my game gear ate up. 6x AA at a time. It was brutal.
Until the charging grips came out. Shame Sega abandoned that and Nomad too. They really pioneered the handheld stuff after Gameboy until the Advance and DS.
My biggest surprise was with my Nintendo DS Lite. I found mine in mint condition, booted some 16 years later, battery still kicking. Cannot measure how much left since I could only drain it to 50% after nearly 10 hours of Castlevania.
Tested a few more games.
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive attention looks better and runs better.
Age of calamity, by contrast, looks.. not to different, runs a bit better, but not as good as Hyrule Warriors DE
Actraiser Renaissance runs better, but oof, the main character is way more pixelated.
Dragon Quest Treasures runs a bit better (30 FPS?) but again, grainier.
Just frustrating to know emulators can do some of this better as far as the upscaling.
Compared to the technological advancements in microprocessors and chips, the battery industry has been lagging, forcing companies to be very creative on the software and non-battery hardware side.
Apple Silicon is by far the best performing chip wrt power consumption but when it comes to gaming even Silicon chip has its limitations. Device that pulls a whole 24 hours gets reduced to a fraction of it when running Resident Evil.
For the foreseeable future it’ll be a constant tradeoff between power, size and battery life.
Overall, I am very pleased with the direction of Switch 2. Battery life is satisfactory enough, and the device doesn’t feel like a laptop fit into a fatter but smaller device. It truly feels like a handheld console. Dock system is the best “gimmick” they’ve ever come up. Backup power and battery options are abundant enough thanks to smartphones and devices and Switch 2 definitely will benefit from them.
This is definitely not a Wii U, may sell less than the OG due to pandemic effect but ultimately going to be a tremendous financial success as more Zelda’s and Mario’s start flowing.
Man, I remember getting my first rechargable batteries from radioshack and feeling like a god.
I went through so many batteries as a kid, it was nuts. I remember getting a gameboy pocket on Christmas and being absolutely devastated I went through the batteries in a single day.
long long ways to go but it appears off to a roaring start. multiple insider sources are claiming the Switch 2 sold around 3 million copies in its first 24 hours, shattering the PS4's old record of 1.2 million, and matching the first month of the Switch 1's sales in a day.
will wait for hard confirmation but even if the reports are exaggerated indeed appears to be the most well-stocked launch in console history resulting in the most successful launch in console history.
