most expensive steamdeck is the 1tb oled at 649. https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck
Also with Asus and Microsoft partnering with a new portable, this may get Valve to refresh the hardware and get some legitimate competition.
Valve has stated they're waiting for more of a generational leap in hardware before releasing a new steam deck. The Ryzen Z2 that this years handhelds are based on isn't *that* much stronger
ye Steam Deck is only 3 years old, OLED version 1.5. given Valve's desire for a generational leap would bet on 2027 for Steam Deck 2.
also Nintendo confirms numbers, initial reports were indeed somewhat exaggerated but Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units in the first 4 days. for comparison Switch 1 sold 2.75 million in its first month, PS5+PS4 4.5 million each in their first two months. is indeed the most successful launch of any console by far.
Those are my requirements for a Switch 2 purchase: a Miyamoto-less Star Fox (heavy focus on online 4-player campaign or multiplayer vs.) and a new F-Zero (99, X or GX style are all fine). MK looks fun but I bought a grand total of 4 Switch games last time; I cannot justify a console purchase for so few games that I personally want to play. If I don't bend the knee to Sony and their exclusive games, I ain't doing it for Nintendo unless there are more than one.
Mario Kart looks dope, though. I'm very much enjoying watching it, and wanna see some competitive lobbies streamed at some point.
MKW is fucking awesome.
I'll inevitably end up buying a Switch 2 for:
Next Gen of Pokemon
a new 3D Mario
a new 3D Zelda game
a new Smash Bros
but not until at LEAST 2 of those get released, otherwise I can't justify it at this point to myself.
Smash or Xeno for me.
The last Pokemon has kind of ruined the franchise for me, at least for the sake of buying a new console or paying full price just for it.
The fact that you need a switch 2 to play Pokemon Scarlet/Violet at a tolerable framerate, is pretty much a joke at this point. That game is a poor excuse of development when it really could’ve cooked better, and that’s Nintendo’s fault. Look at how good Game Freak’s new game is running on that Xbox showcase for SGF.
I’ll be surprised if we see a new Smash tbh, an update to Ultimate is more likely.
We must have watched very different trailers for Beast of Reincarnation cause it was clear to me that the frame rate was not holding up in the trailer for that game, which is not exactly a great sign for the inevitable release.
yeah like half the trailer for that was sub-15 fps. If that was the best clips they could scrounge up for a that trailer it's not looking good for the game.
Was listening to the How did this get Played podcast talking about Mother 3 and Nintendo and just how fucking annoying as shit and stupid as fuck Nintendo is...but at the same time how we'll all buy their games because we know they'll be good. Like why don't we have a fucking HD Windwaker on switch or now Switch 2?!?!?!? WHY NINTENDO?! Why do I need a fucking fan ROM for playing Mother 3???!?!?!?!
Finally got my S2, and yeah, it's a marked upgrade over the first. Makes the original feel a lot more like a child's toy. Bigger, better screen, less plasticy feeling, brighter, the usual upgrades you'd expect. Mario Kart is old school fun. I'm enjoying it. Definitely waiting on Donkey Kong to get a real sense of the system, but I'm happier with it than I expected to be.
Edit: Mario RPG remaster is pretty on it, I will say.
I've heard like a dozen excuses over the years, but I do think it just boils down to there's something in it that makes Nintendo of America squeemish. It's not the late 2000s anymore and smash has drastically increased the fan base for the mother franchise.

Nintendo did an updated cover of "Airship Fortress" for the new Mario Kart. All is right with the world, if only for a brief moment.
Good old times. Nothing like leaving the house with rechargeable ones and giving them to a friend whose batteries ran out, then coming back with their shitty third-rate non-rechargeable ones. Always fun to explain. Pretty sure I was the only kid in my area who even had a link-cable for the Game Boy.
Had no idea Soul Calibur II natively supported Widescreen.
Now we are talking.
You guys were so coddled!
Here is what would happen when the batteries would run out in my GB when I was a kid..
"I need new batteries for my Game Boy."
"WHAT?!!!!"
"Please don't yell at me."
"I JUST gave you batteries!!" (It could have been a month and they would still say that. ^^
"I was almost at the end of this level and.."
"DID YOU LOSE THEM?!"
"No, they just ran out of char.."
"Your gunna put us in the poor house!!"
"But.."
"YOU AIN'T GETTIN' NO NEW BATTERIES!!!!!"
